Why is it that no politician or anyone in civil society talking about the problem of over-population. Nigeria has a population figure of approx 150 million and half of that figure are under the age of 20. No matter what way you look at it Nigeria is heading towards over-population and our leaders are doing nothing to stop it from happening, women are regularly churning out 9 children each, men are taking multiple women for marriage. When are we going to wake up and see that this is unsustainable. The UN predicts by the year 2020 Lagos will be the most populous city(slum) in the world with a mind boggling 25 Million inhabitants, if you think the status quo of Lagos is bad, you ain't seen nothing yet.
When are our leaders going to stop burying their heads in the sand and take action b4 its too late??

Don't be easily deceived by speculations of the west. Nigeria is actually under-populated in equation with its land mass. One factor is constant with the emerging economic powers dat is China and India and even Brazil are their mighty population.

People only start complaining of population when they have useless gov that are not making use of any resources, including human resources via creating jobs to stimulate economy. That population of Nigeria is HEALTHY FOR A DEVELOPING COUNTRY.  cool

Nigeria will soon reach its carrying capacity after which there will be insufficient food and land to meet the needs of the people.

When that happens, nature takes over - we can expect either famine, starvation, diesease, genocide etc.

Nature will restore the equilibrium when the time reaches.

Over population is not in the top five of our problems as a nation.

1. Corruption
2. Corruption
3. Corruption
4. Illiteracy
5. Sentimental divides ( religious, ethnic, tribal e.t.c)
6. Poverty ( a derivative from above)

if you guys bothered to read i never said Nigeria was over populated, what i sed is that we are going to over shoot our maximum capacity and that is the danger. people mention india and china and brazil as success stories- in all those countries 40% of the population live under the poverty line. Oh ya is it not the same china thats tryin to curb its its population by implementing child taxes?

India, china and Brazil twenty years ago were in Nigeria's present situation and classified as a third world country. Today day are considered emerging global powers and a threat to America. One factor u need to understand about Nigeria is dat we are the most populous Black nation in the whole world at 150 million, dat is actually not much for such a status.

We are a holding country of the black race and a location for increase and expansion of the dwindling black race dat have been ravished already by HIV and high Death rate from diseases most part of the world cure easily. I mean death at child birth for women is high, infant mortality rate is high. We are the third country in the world with the highest rate of hiv and the list goes on, so do the maths.

For the sake of comparison:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_sovereign_states_and_dependent_territories_by_population_density

73rd on the list.

Surprisingly enough, China is LESS densely populated than Nigeria. Lol.
