*Youth Minister Approves N90m For Immediate Payments of WEP Interns*

Interns of the Work Experience Programme (WEP) powered by the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development (FMYSD) will have cause to smile soon as indications emerge that firm directives have been given for the payment of all outstanding allowances.

According to a reliable source close to the Ministry, the Minister, Sunday Dare has approved the immediate release of N90m for the full payment of all outstanding allowances up till November 2021, which was the final month of internship. Final processing and payments are expected to commence later this week, as interns will begin to receive credit alerts.

It was learnt that delays in concluding payments was caused by the need for tracking and reconciliation by the Consultant and the Ministry, due to different WEP start times by beneficiaries. Investigations reveal that 2,682 participants have hitherto been paid a total of Eighty Million, Four Hundred and Sixty Thousand Naira (N80, 460,000), so far.

The Work Experience Programme (WEP) Initiative is a three-month internship programme that provides participants with the opportunity to gain relevant first hand knowledge, develop skills and workplace competencies that will enhance their employability.
