Great. But this project should be sited at a major oil producing state like Imo state with the likes of shell anoh gas project not at Lagos. He should source for his oil from the 30 liters of oil Lagos produce. SMH for NIGERIA

Das why the foundations were not fixed permanently. The whole structure is removable. Call and tell Dangote to remove the Refinery to an oil producing State like Imo.

You are correct.

But Nigeria would always give him a better deal, and it would always be cheaper than importing the crude.

Ayomi90:

Dangote doesn't own Nigeria oil, he needs to buy it from Nigeria ND if Nigeria doesn't come with a suitable deal it's best to buy elsewhere, this is business.

Do you know why you are stucked where you are? You make business decisions out of sentiment and not out of business sense.

They tried to situate it in Ondo, an oil producing state and a relatively peaceful zone, but the greed and lack of foresight if the past governor nessecitated the choice of Lagos

Made up my mind? how do you mean?

The first bolded,
Yes there are scenarios where Dangote would have to import crude. That is not what I am saying. What I am saying is, why would the importation of crude be a priority to him when there is already crude in Nigeria, which is closer and eliminates the need to transport it and driving down cost?

The second bolded,
That is true. But in the case of Nigeria I can't think of why Dangote would need to buy crude from other countries. Unless if you want to mention Niger Delta problems.

aribisala0:
I wonder whether you have already made up your mind
You say 2000km
Whether it be the crude or it be the refined products traveling to market that 2000km would have to be travelled .It then comes down to ANALYSIS of DATA. to make the OPTIMAL BUSINESS CHOICE That is the responsibility of Dangote. It is his busines
Sounds counter productive does not make it so
There are so many reasons and scenaros why this can happen. It is important to make a distinction between Dangote's business and Nigeria they are not the same thing .Those blind spots lead to inaccurate thinking
Depending on geography and Logistics it may make sense for the same country to sell and buy crude

This is not a theoretical speculation.
Is it happening anywhere? YES The USA is a very good example . So let us not rely on gut feelings or how things "sound" but base our conclusions on fact an figures based analysis

Captalism I can understand cos u compete and win bt monopoly is using unfair leverage and government influence to make sure u are ontop to frustrate weaker ones in same sectors. U get waivers and preferential treatment others can’t and won’t afford.

That’s different from capitalism.
You are wrong Mr, you can't call it a monopoly if he is not the only one in the business. Every business seek for favour here and there, especially with govt all over the world. Others should seek too, be friends with who you have to be friends with, shake hands that has to be shaked , so that you all can compete on the same par level. You can't over rule the influence of the govt in a business mans life, this is what others are missing. He has the VP you should get in the favour of the SP its still competition.

Clearly you have no knowledge of how the industry works
Crude oil is often sold on contracts. Sometimes called forward contracts up to 12 months or longer .
Sometimes prices crash but a refiner could be locked in to a contract at old prices. So depending on how Dangote runs his business he may benefit from non Nigerian oil
The oil n Nigeria belongs to companies just like Dangote is another company. Companies negotiate to sell oil and are at liberty to make deals with whom they please so Dangote does not have first refusal on Nigeria oil.
Yo u do not just turn up in the market tomorrow and take oil home the next day
If his facility has to shut down for 6 months for any reason what would the oil selling companies be doing. They would need guarantees or indemnity. Once you bring the oil out of the ground it costs money to store it every single day. So a refinery shut down is a risk the upstream sector don't want to share
You seem to think it is the government selling oil. No it is companies like Shell Mobil etc in collaboration with NNPC
do not forget that these businesses are potentially rivals of Dangote in the refining business
Some have their own refineries in other countries and potentially could make more money elsewhere
Also Dangote may be able to get cheaper oil than the Nigeria oil from time to time such deals happen.

Refinery can be sited anywhere. Those locations in the SS he intended the governors were very greedy. They want shares without paid up capital.

He proposed to the then Ondo governor same thing happened.

When he approached Lagos government they inclined to his demand.

One thing you need to know is that this particular refinery doesn't only refine the light sweet crude we have in Nigeria.

He had factored the greedy nature of the niger-delta that is why this project was designed to refine heavy crude oil from other part of Africa like Angola which is less than 2000km from Lagos.

Kudos to Alhaji dangote the black yansh billionaire.
Kudos to Lagos state government.

Please also add KUDOS TINUBU AND FASHOLA

I HATE IT WHEN TINUBU ACHIEVEMENT IS BEING DOWNPLAYED.I FOLLOWED DANGOTE REGINERY SICE 2011.IT WAS TINUBU AND FASHOLA THAT ACTUALLY VISITED DANGOTE TO WOE HIM!....

He has leverage the others too should get. People are allowed to play dirty as long as it isn't illegal. Most of his opportunity now are because of the deals and contract he has made and won from the govt while others were still lagging. Even this country's we call developed are you saying there are businesses that are not favoured by their govt. Thats actually one of the qualities of an entrepreneur looking beyond the scope that others don't see. I don't think others are even ready too compete lol because when you start thinking this and that is unfair instead of looking for opportunity you will soon run out of business

Monopoly is not illegal until it becomes destructive to society actually. And yes it is monopoly using government and unfair leverages. The normal thing is for government to regulate It and help smaller ones have same opportunity the big ones had when they were also small.

Not allowing them to have that is destructive monopoly.

Insecurity is a serious challenge in oil producing states, no smart investor will invest such in that area.
