7 Mistakes To Avoid When Booking A Flight by Traveltips1: 11:15pm On Jan 26, 2022 |
The process of booking a flight has become very convenient and straightforward. However, there are some common mistakes that can be made when booking flights. We have put together a list of 7 of the most common ones that we find most common in the bookings sites. 1.Forgetting to delete cookies All websites track cookies, which means they are tracking your purchasing habits. Clear your cookies before booking, or search for and book flights in an incognito tab. It's simply a marketing ploy in which websites try to scare you into booking before the prices skyrocket. 2. Taking a flight on a Friday or a Sunday Fridays and Sundays are considered leisure travel days in the airline industry. The reasoning is simple, but it often slips our minds when booking a flight. Fridays and Sundays are the busiest travel days, with Sundays being busier for leisure travelers returning from weekend getaways and Fridays being busier for business travelers returning home at the end of the working week. Although this is not a hard and fast rule, many frequent flyers have noticed this shift. It's a good thing to remember when looking for flights 3. Not Investigating Alternative Airports Every major city has more than one airport. One of the most common mistakes people make when looking for flights is failing to consider alternative airports. Alternative airports frequently end up saving you money on your airfare. When you use Google Flights to search for flights, you will notice that the search automatically suggests alternative airports to fly into. This is not to divert you from your search, but to assist you in saving money. This option may not always be appropriate, but it is worth a quick search if you are saving a significant amount of money on your booking. To figure out how to get from the alternate airport to your destination and make the necessary arrangements, always take a look at Apps that will make traveling easier. 4.If you are after the cheapest fare you may not be booking at the right time Tuesday midnight is your golden time to buy cheap flights. Airline's know if their weekend flights are booked up and if a flight has any empty seats left, they reduce their prices. Another reason behind this is that all the unsold tickets come flooding back into the booking system. 5. Not taking into account the hidden costs It's easy to get sucked into those 'last few seats available' marketing deals, but it's important to remember that the majority of the time, these deals come with a hidden cost. Although the airfare itself may appear to be less expensive at first glance, airlines prefer to compensate for this by incurring additional costs. Always remember to check for any additional fees, such as additional baggage fees, transfer fees, and sometimes even seat fees. 6. Not understanding the difference between nonstop and direct flights We frequently confuse a non-stop flight with a direct flight without realizing the distinction. Just a slight change in the term used to describe the flight can turn a pleasant journey into an unpleasant one. Non-stop flights do exactly what they say: they take you from point A to point B without making any stops in between. Direct flights, on the other hand, sound very similar to non-stop flights, but in many cases, your flight will make a stop along the way to pick up more passengers; you will not be required to disembark, but your journey will not be non-stop. 7.Not checking if it cheaper to pay in different currencies This is not a hard and fast rule, but many frequent flyers have discovered that paying in their home currency works out cheaper with some airlines. One thing to keep in mind is that your bank may charge you a foreign transaction fee. Otherwise, the savings made by paying in foreign currency are offset by the bank's transaction fees. Traveltips1:#1 is an urban legend. Deleting cookies has no effect on the cost. Instead, the cost of tickets is based on availability at any point in time. Nice post though. 1 Like 1 Share |

I once had a very unsuccessful ticket booking. In general, it so happened that I flew to my friend's wedding in Italy. Everything was fine, but we had so much fun until the morning of the next day that I only realized in the morning that I bought a ticket for the very next day after the wedding and not for the day after tomorrow. I had to call and cancel, but the money wasn't returned to me, well, not at least a coupon for the next flight. I decided to google that maybe there is some compensation, after all, I found this https://euflightcompensation.com/ site with a list of such services. It helped me a lot, I got half the ticket price back on my card! Better than nothing.) |
