Nigeria A Country That Is Sliding Deeply Into Cannibalism by PaNnamdi: 1:37am On Feb 03, 2022 |
THE increased rate of gruesome murder and macabre killings across the length and breadth of the country smirks off a feeling that Nigeria is sliding into the stone age of beastiality and cannibalism. The media is daily awash with reports of killings of innocent souls in the most unimaginable manner with their bodies dismembered apparently for ritual purposes occasioned by the popular notion by a cross section of the public that human parts can be used for money rituals. RECENT cases of senseless killings in the land remind one that the days of isolated cases of Clifford Orji, Ikorodu Badoo, Okija Shrine as well as the ritual den at Soka, Ibadan are back big time and now widespread. For instance, a middle-aged woman, Mrs Veronica Dare who was a cleaner in a church at Iwaro, Oka-Akoko, Ondo State was a few days ago axed in the neck in front of the church with some parts of her body taken away by her killers. In November, the police in Nasarawa State arrested a suspect in Ushata village for allegedly killing his friend’s seven-year-old son for ritual. In September, operatives of the Amotekun corps in Oyo State arrested three men over the kidnapping and beheading of a septuagenarian. One of the suspects told journalists that he got N35,000 to obtain a human head, which another suspect needed to prepare a money-making ritual. In the same month, a 25 year old man was nabbed by men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Kwara State for allegedly murdering his brother for money ritual. ON April 12, 2021, a woman identified as Iya Elekuru was murdered in a building by suspected ritualists in Ile-Ife, Osun State , who lured her into the building under the pretense that they want to buy food from her. In June, a youth was arrested in Calabar, Cross River State, for beheading his aunt and keeping the severed head in his room. On January 17, an elderly man, who according to residents usually acts like a mentally unstable person, was arrested by the police for alleged kidnapping and ritual activities in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.A few days ago, the Nigeria Police arrested a 41-year-old man for allegedly being in possession of human parts including fresh human hands, intestines, and skull from Ojokoro cemetery in Ikorodu, Lagos State. PRIOR to this year, many cases of ritual killings rented the air. For instance, in October 2020, a guard with a microfinance bank was reportedly killed by suspected ritualists and his head cut off at Okia area of Oka-Akoko, Ondo State. IN June last year, three young ladies — Grace Oshiagwu, Barakat Bello, and Azeezat Somuyiwa — were murdered in their residences located in Akinyele LGA of Oyo State in a pattern that suggested ritual killing. In October 2019, two young men were with a human skull along Ijoun road, Eggua axis of Ogun State while in June, a prophet was arrested in Igboora area of Oyo State for the alleged murder of a 25-year-old housewife for ritual purposes, after luring her from Ilorin in Kwara State, with the promise of providing solution to her economic and marital problems. In January of same year, the Ekiti police busted a ritualists’ den in Odo, Ado Ekiti, and arrested two suspected ritualists. The list is endless. THE above scenarios are serious security concerns as well as smearing our reputation and giving us a bad name of a country sliding into cannibalism. Every well-meaning Nigerian must rise against this tendency that is destroying our now and the future as victims of these heinous crimes always have their dreams and potentials cut short. THE HOPE challenges appropriate stakeholders to unmask this unfortunate process of using human beings for money ritual to ascertain whether it is real in the first instance. And even if it were to be real, must one take another person’s life to make money? In a religious country like ours, these desecrations put a question mark on our so-called faiths. IT is common knowledge that highly placed individuals in the society patronize these ritualists which is why the criminals are protected. Security agencies should live up to their responsibilities in this regard. Government should ensure that there is justice for the poor and unconnected. Religious and opinion leaders should speak out and rise up in condemnation of these crimes as their voice is a catalyst to demystifying the wrongly held beliefs of misguided folks that the quickest means to make money is to kill fellow humans for rituals. MEMBERS of the public should also speak out and unmask the hideouts as well as the faces of ritualists in their communities. The task of riding Nigeria of cannibalistic tendencies is a collective one and the time to act is now. 1 Like |

Killings is despicable but even government do kill, doctors kill in the hospitals and scientists kill in their labs witbout anyone saying anything about it. While we disapprove of killings, let's recognize other areas of our existence that perpetrate the gruesome act and condemn them in totality. |

We know the tribes that do these things, they must call themselves to order, enligten their children, eating humans is animalistic and barbaric. Op it is cursed people that does this, not all "Nigerian" tribes carry out this cursed abominable act. Killing another human is murder, using their parts is dealing in organs, let us stop nonsense yahoo plus and dead body spitting money nonsense. The police must treat these offenders like murderers, and sentence them to death for partaking and profiting from the killings and sale of human parts. We glamouralize these nonsense. Yahoo boys get tools online for their work, not these nonsense. We need brutal laws, we need to effect our execution laws, so many evil seeds must be rid off... otherwise I see a dark cloud. |
