Large Number Of Mentally Ill Persons Roaming Abia Streets Failure Of Govt—udensi by Metrix147: 9:45am On Feb 04, 2022 |
A governorship aspirant in Abia, Sir Chikwe Udensi has said the large number of mentally ill individuals roaming the streets of Abia is an indication of failure of government to solve social problems in the state. He said they ought to be in the psychiatric homes where they should be receiving treatment and not on the street where they are not cared for. Udensi, a chieftain of APGA spoke on Wednesday on a radio programme, Open Parliament on Love FM Umuahia streamed live by ABN TV. He said the state government has not demonstrated enough care for the people, "any society that cannot take care of its own is not worth a society, how a state allows those people to be walking round the street naked in 21st century. "It is unfair because it is called the psychiatric hospital, it means what they are suffering it treatable. We have enormous social problems in Abia" he insisted. He added that solutions should be provided, emphasising that the easy problems should be first tackled before delving into the higher ones. Udensi who is currently embarking on retirees and elderly persons outreach where he gives free medicare, food palliatives, and cash transfer maintained that Abia social problem is large. He said if elected the governor of the state, health care, poverty, hunger, malnutrition, and starvation are taken care of first and foremost. He revealed that he is in talks with renowned medical professionals from Abia on how to minister to the health care needs of the people, delving into infrastructure and security. I have seen a case of a woman who was mad but was treated in a psychiatric hospital and she is now living a normal life and contributing her quota to the development of her community. Unfortunately, their medications are very expensive and unaffordable. If the government really cares about these unfortunate citizens, they should subsidize their drugs or even make them free just like those of HIV/AIDS patients |
