‼️Affiliate marketing is a SCAM?‼️ I know some of you Nairalanrers have been waiting for ChubiCopy to chime in on this issue. Or you don't have a clue! We'll keep reading!!! I have resisted the temptation for a while now. I have tried. But heck, I am only human. So here I am to confirm if affiliate marketing is a scam. Maybe we should start by defining what a scam is. A scam is a deceptive scheme or trick used to cheat someone out of something, especially money. While… Affiliate marketing involves earning a commission by promoting a product or service made by another retailer or advertiser. As you can clearly see, scamming is not affiliate marketing, and affiliate marketing is not scamming. But, It's too early to sing hosanna. There is one more rat in the room. It's called a get-rich-quick scheme. Get-rich-quick scheme is a scheme that promises to make a person extremely wealthy over a short period of time. This is where the problem lies. And the problem lies mainly with you, the buyer. If you are approached to buy a course of N25,000 which promises to teach you how to earn N5,000,000 monthly, starting from next month, and you grabbed the "opportunity" with both hands "without doing due diligence", who is to blame? You are the greedy one. And yes, affiliate marketing can be packaged as a get rich quick scheme. Just like any other business model out there. Even love can be packaged as a get rich keep scheme. Date me, and I will do this and that for you. I'll buy you the moon, and buy your father the Eiffel tower. You know the drill. So the real problem I see here is the problem of greed. And that's a problem that comes factory fitted with an average Nigerian. Over here, the "hardworking" truth is despised. We are only interested in learning the "fastest, easiest" way to make money. We don't care if it is the right way or not. Our affiliate marketing scene right now is reminiscent of the old Clickbank, Warriorplus and JV marketplace. ..In terms of how we market affiliate products. It's the "shiniest" product and "loudest" hype man that wins. As it should be, at least for now because the market is at its infancy stage, You don't need serious copywriting to sell MMO offers in Nigeria. And I say this with all sense of responsibility. Do you want to sell info products in the MMO niche? Then say this. "I made XYZ big amount of money in an XYZ short unbelievable time-space". And below is my proof. Post earning proof ( whether yours or borrowed). Then, say something like, "you might think I am making all this money because I am special, but that's not the case. I have trained over 100 other dumb people like myself to make money with this method too". Then post more earning proof of your actual or supposed students. And say, "if you want to also make money like us, then click the link below and buy my course." That's where we are right now. This phase, which will only pass after a few known internet marketers have been sent to jail, is not going anytime soon. Until then, we are riding the wave as long as it lasts. Having said all this, here is what you should focus on. Instead of bashing affiliate marketing or having resentment towards those making a killing from it, do this... Study the marketing strategies of the top affiliates you know. ( If you don't know any, I can show you some). Because the thing is, Nigerians are super sceptical. They don't play with their money. Greedy, yes. But they are sceptics raised to power one million. So, how in the world are these young affiliate wonder kids convincing people from sapa nation to keep dropping thousands of naira on courses… Weekly? Isn't that worth studying? Are they lying to them? Are they bribing them? Are they doing affiliate marketing plus? That's what you should find out. Anybody who can convince 200 Nigerians to drop N50k on courses weekly is worth studying. A recap. We have been able to establish that affiliate marketing is no scam. But it can be presented as a get rich quick scheme. Which only greedy persons fall for. Another point I would rather not talk much about in this letter is that… Some people are lazy AF. They don't want to work. They want a magic wand. They want to swipe up and down on their phone. And watch it print money. These ones also join people wey dey say affiliate marketing na Ponzi. Omashe o! PS: My utmost respect to all brave business souls behind our fledgling affiliate networks. Keep doing your best. Make dem dey talk. Na dem go tire. PPS: There are many other issues that I didn't get to address. What's your take on this issue?? But for now hasta la vista bebe!!
