PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Project Management is application of knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to project activities to achieve project requirements. Project management is accomplished through the application and integration of the project management processes of initiating, planning, executing, monitoring & controlling and closing. This definition of Project Management can be found in the Project Management body of Knowledge. Project Management is quite different from general management though there are some areas of similarities. Projects are more schedule-intensive than most of the activities that general managers handle and the people in Project team don’t often report directly to the Project manager, whereas they do report to most general managers. You may be wondering what you can call a project; the PMI defines a project as any temporary endeavor embarked upon to produce a unique product, service or result. This means that a project is only one time and has a definite beginning and an end.

Project Management Institute (PMI) is the professional organization for people who manage Projects and they have over 250,000 members spread across the world over. You can get more information about PMI on their website (www.pmi.org). The PMI has a certification process whereby qualifying individuals receive the Project management Professional (PMP) designation.
