✍Did you know thousands of girls and women have died from the barbaric act of Female Gender Mutilation?

According to statistics, over 200 million girls/ women alive today were subjected to FGM
And over 3 million girls are at risk of undergoing the practice every year.

Sadly, to think that this ancient practice is extinct or nearly extinct. In reality, this practice of FGM is only but increasing.

.
.
You may be wondering, what is Female Gender Mutilation?

This is essentially the practice of partially or entirely removing the external female Instruments and includes any other harm or injury caused to the female genital organs for non-medical reasons.

How Horrible!

This is an act that we should abolish the world over. Most especially in some parts of Africa, predominantly Senegal, where it is seen as a vital rite of passage into womanhood, not regarding the negative physical, psychological and social impact this act leaves in its wake.

In Nigeria, 20 million women are mutilated.

In essence, women in Nigeria make up 10% of the global total.

According to UNICEF, over $2 billion is needed to fund the end of FGM.

While we may not be directly involved in this process, we can use our voice to reiterate that women have right over their bodies; therefore, neither culture nor tradition, nor even religion, should have the power to dictate what happens to the body of a woman.

While investments to end this practice are accelerating.........

Let us in our little corners of the world, speak against this evil against girls and women known as Female Gender mutilation.

Dear Mamma!

What do you think of FGM? Are you a victim? Do you know anywhere they still practice this vile tradition?

FGM is evil. I just hope it's a punishable criminal offence for perpetrators.
