Olamide Gbenga Adedeji, professionally known as Olamide made his debut in 2010, and looking back on his journey, he’s easily the definition of “having come a long way.”

After earning a record deal at Coded Tunes, Olamide released his first studio album, the critically acclaimed Rapsodi. Spearheaded by several singles including “Omo To San,” “Eni Duro,” and “Apati Jabo,” Rapsodi announced Olamide to Nigeria, and the rest they say is history.

From the skinny looking MC with a fashion sense uncharacteristic of rappers, Olamide gradually evolved into the rap king pin, leaving no room for slip-ups in his decade-long dominance.

Since 2011, no Nigerian musician has put out more studio albums than Olamide (11, 9 solo albums and 2 collaborative albums). In fact, he’s only failed to release a solo album in 2018 and 2019, although in 2019 YBNL released their collaborative project titled YBNL Mafia Family.

His ingenious use and mastery of several Nigerian patois is nothing short of class. Olamide’s discography is littered with inventive slang that have gone on to form a collection of street anthems.

There is no defined yardstick to measure the sort of impact the YBNL boss has had on Nigerian music. However, from making really good records to spotting and nurturing talents, Olamide’s legacy will live beyond airplays and honorary recognition.

The voice of the streets indeed- for long he’s been criticised for not making music that transcends borders, but Baddo has stayed true to his roots, held the game down, authoritatively controlled his market, killed every competition that’s ever risen and built his kingdom, YBNL on the very pinnacle of a mountain, where the foundations are undeniably unshakable.

Will Unruly be his last album like he said? Will it be his best album ever like he said? Probably!

It’s also possible for him to come out of retirement in the near future, but there is surely no forgetting Baddo- Baddest guy ever liveth. Not even in the slightest chance.
