There is no right of first refusal to any region that is unable to transform its party's presidential ticket to victory. North was given the opportunity by PDP in 2019 to convert its presidential ticket to actual victory but failed. Common sense simply implies that South should be given the opportunity to try its luck in attempting to win the presidency for PDP against a Southern APC candidate as projected. It is not the fault of South that PDP lost in 2015 nor will the South wait in perpetuity till Northern candidate wins Presidential election for the party before it is zoned to South, it doesn't work that way. Let's not also forget that from 1960 till date a period of 62 years, South has only ruled 1976-1979 (Gen Obasanjo military regime,) 1999 till 2007 (Obasanjo's civil rule), 2010 to 2015 (Jonathan's rule). North has to fair, just and equitable to the South whether in APC or PDP.

So here is my take.

If PDP loses again in 2023, will they still hand over the presidential ticket to a Southerner in 2027 Abi it will still be status quo.

Have you thought of it that why did your own southern brother support a northerner to outst Jonathan Good luck from power. Greed killed the south then. You left your own and supported those that will dribble you. It's now time foe paybacks and you're busy talking hahah

As the debate on power shift and zoning continues to engulf the political space, the importance of putting this besieging subject in proper perspective cannot be hyperbolized. In order to get rid of the pervading conjectures and adulterated opinions, this topic has to be swiftly put to bed.

Putting it rather charitably, the towncriers amplifying this clamour for the main opposition party, the PDP to zone its ticket to the South are either meddlesome interlopers or just up to mischief aimed at satiating their inordinate desires.

True to its billing as a party deeply rooted on the principles of equity, fairness and justice; the PDP, from 1999 till date has always zoned its elective positions on the basis of a North/South oscillation and vice versa. For avoidance of conflicts, let it be unequivocally stated that this rotation policy remains a domestic intra-party mechanism incubated by the founding fathers of the PDP to engender unity and inclusiveness. Also, nothing in the Nigerian constitution mandates parties to negotiate a power sharing formula among themselves. Thus, we run foul of no law.

Let it be on record that there was never a time since the formation of the PDP, that it went into an alliance or agreement with other parties to create some sort of uniform template on any issue; talk less zoning. The egalitarian podium on which our great party stands, certainly leaves no room for hobnobbing with its ideologically inferior counterparts. Ideally, one size hardly fits all.

In apparent deference to zoning, history shows that there has always been an exchange of baton along dichotomic lines since 1999 till we lost power in 2015. Olusegun Obasanjo; a Southerner, handed over the reins to Umaru Musa Yar'adua (R.I.P); a Northerner. Owing to the latter's demise, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan; a Southerner completed his principal's tenure before vying for his own mandate which culminated in the loss of power in 2015.

Between 1999 and 2015 that the PDP held sway, Presidents of southern extraction occupied the exalted office for over 13 out of the total period of 16 years. This figure amounts to a whopping value of 81%. Like they say, numbers don't lie. After the manipulated defeat of the party's candidate in 2019, the right of first refusal for the 2023 ticket still belongs to the North.

Arguing against this lucid position only reeks of political expediency. Ultimately, he who demands equity must not approach it with leprous hands. Matter of fact, the moral burden is now on the ruling APC, to emulate the PDP by respecting the plurality of its members ethnic and religious diversity. However, it is nobody's business if the party chooses the path of ignominy for which it has gained unprecedented notoriety.

In synopsis, issues such as zoning; though delicate, are strictly party affairs and our party's precedence shows the premium we place on it. With our pride of place as the biggest political party in Nigeria, our decisions should not pander to the whims, emotional outbursts and monkey tricks of rival parties. Lest we fail.

North or South, let the party reign supreme. God bless the PDP!! God bless Nigeria!!!

Deep inside you, you kno ur spirit against what you wrote, you know by fielding Atiku would not bringing Victory for PDP even if it's time for the north, you also know that if any northerner becomes president after 8yrs endurance of Bubu would bring disintegration and the northern man in power will do nothing to achieve no matter how good his plan is, bcoz of restless and acrimony that would engulf his reign but ur stomach would not allow you to tow the lane of peace and progress.

Stop deceiving yourself, there is no third force or party anywhere.

Alot of you should learn to join this 2 political parties and wrestle power from these clowns.

Even in the US, power is between the Democrats and Republicans.

In the UK it's between Labour and the conservatives.

The problem right now is that the south are not united.
A Tinubu will not back down for south east this is where the north get their 2023 power should still remain in North from.

If by mistake the north win 2023 election the south is finished.

And their chances of winning it is 70% ,they are most likely to get one of the major party and they will switch.

However if A Tinubu can get APC ticket and PDP ticket is successfully zone to the south that way the north will have no choice but choose any southern.

Although new crises will be in the south

What a foolish write up? Either PDP, APC, APGA or even parties yet to be registered, the borne of contention is which zone produce the president. If we accept this rubbish then one zone can continue to produce president forever, the only thing they need is to be changing parties. Buhari won the election basically because PDP jettison zoning arrangements.

They cannot. Even with a northern candidate it will be hard, southern candidate is Automatic defeat.

I have said this many times elections is simple arithmetic. The last time virtually everybody from SE and SS voted PDP, so they are not going to get any new votes from those zones. Where are they going to get the votes to challenge APC?….The north or the SW. The SW will be extremely difficult so the easiest place to get the votes especially since the APC will likely field a Southern candidate is the North. How do you appeal to voters in the North…..with a northern candidate. The one thing PDP cannot afford to do is lose northern voters when they are not gaining any in the southbound that is what will happen particularly if they field a candidate from the SE. If PDP fields a candidate from the south it has to be from the SE or there will be problems with their own core supporters in the south, hence they will lose votes due to voter apathy so they lose core SE votes and make no progress in the north…..recipe for disaster. PDP has a tough task in 2023 but their only hope is a northerner.

Didn't even bother reading it when I saw the organization to which the writer belongs.

I wonder why these guys are advancing all these inane justifications for wanting to take their ticket up North.

The unblemished truth is, they know am Easterner CAN'T win a South Westerner in this election. There is simply no chance.

Secondly, the primary objective of every political organization is the attainment of power and the consolidation/retention of same. It is the norm ALL ACROSS THE WORLD. Forget what anyone tells you.

This is the reason a political party wouldn't be too daft as to DELIBERATELY make a move that would put its chances in jeopardy. It is the reason the pdp wont zone its ticket to the East, ditto APC.

Anything else na just deceptive semantics.
