Er, I think the excerpt is pretty explicit.

Maybe you want me to comment on the new and extended shortlist but there can be only one winner, so. Also, two more studios get to say "From the Academy Award Nominated . . . . . . . . . yada yada yada"

Ok this is more my pace. . .more for the location than the technology.

Today saw the launch of the Sanctum 3D Mobile Experience, a traveling theater that will showcase scenes from the upcoming film for free across a dozen US cities over the next four weeks. To launch the event, director Alister Grierson joined executive producer James Cameron and writer/producer Andrew Wright for a discussion about the film, the true story behind it and how, in a way, the 3D element plays a larger role in Sanctum than it did in Avatar.

Inspired by the real-life experiences of Wright, the thriller came after a near-fatal storm that hit when the explorer was cave-diving in Western Australia's Nullabor Plain.

"We were exploring an underwater cave system similar to what we've got in 'Sanctum,'" Wright recalls, "On the last day of the expedition, we were hauling all of our equipment out and most of the people in the cave were engaged in that activity. I was on quite a small ledge hauling tanks up and a freak storm hit the area. What started as a trickle of water from the cave, turned into a torrent which then started to collapse the entrance to the cave. Literally, boulders the size of an SUV were rolling down in the cave. You could hear the clatter of scuba tanks banging off the walls. It trapped about fifteen of us below ground."

Luckily for Wright, he survived the incident and, after working with Cameron on his 3D documentaries, decided to script a thriller based on the same scenario. Produced in Australia for a modest budget, Sanctum aims to apply the same cameras used in Avatar to different effect. By telling a story of incredibly close-quarters, the upcoming film is able to make more distinctive use of the technology.

"'Avatar' had so many wide vistas," explains Cameron, "that the difference between watching the movie in 2D and 3D is not that great. The more expansive the image, the less you feel in close contact with the characters or objects. It's the intimate scenes in 'Avatar', that were really the most effective."

For Sanctum, intimacy is driven to a terrifying level as the characters squeeze through dark, flooded caves in search of some kind of an exit. To achieve the cramped, underwater shooting, the cast was required to undergo extensive training with Grierson joking that they waited for the most dangerous stuff until the last day of shooting.

Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli of EON Productions, together with Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum, Co-Chairmen and Chief Executive Officers of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc., today announced that the 23rd James Bond film will commence production in late 2011 for a worldwide release on November 9, 2012.

Daniel Craig will be returning as the legendary British secret agent, with Sam Mendes directing a screenplay written by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and John Logan.

Trailer looks like something i'd watch. . .but we know trailers can be deceiving.  It had better be more interesting than Legion.  For some reason, my pc doesn't let me encode vids properly.  Too lazy to work out the details grin

Someone's comment cracked me up

It does look like Blade and Legion had a baby, and then that baby got together with Constantine, and had Priest.  Rofl.

And. . .can't they just stick with one female? A villain preferably.  Could be just speculation though.
Jessica Biel is not a strong enough actress for this kind of caliber of movie.  Anne Hathaway is too sunny for gotham city.

Someone said, it would be better to stick to classic villains and not color the lines with semi-obscure villains.

Heat Vision is reporting the trade has learned who Christopher Nolan is looking at for the female role in The Dark Knight Rises:

Keira Knightley, Anne Hathaway and Jessica Biel are due to test for roles in the Warner Bros. superhero tentpole in the next two weeks. Also testing are relative newcomers Kate Mara and Charlotte Riley. Hot British actress Gemma Arterton has also scheduled to test but, as Heat Vision first reported last week, Arterton just landed the female lead in Paramount's Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters and might now have scheduling issues.

The site adds that Nolan is filling two female roles for his third Batman movie - a villain and a love interest. According to them, one character is Talia, the daughter of Ra's al Ghul (Liam Neeson in the first film).

Interestingly, Riley is engaged to Tom Hardy, who is playing a role in the movie.

Heat Vision says shooting is expected to start in May and will film in London and Los Angeles. The Dark Knight Rises opens in theaters on July 20, 2012.

With her pregnancy i doubt that is possible if they are to start shooting by may.
I would have loved her in it though. She can be dark.

I haven't seen any of the movies nominated for the makeup category except Alice in Wonderland and about 20mins of Jonah Hex. I'm sure Alice will win anyway.

Also I have only seen Inception among the Directors' nominees. I want Nolan to win but I'm not sure if he deserves it this time. He shoulda won for TDK. Inception should win for best film though. grin
Re: Hollywood directors: Rate or hate? What's your Take? by iice(f): 2:38am On Jan 14, 2011
Well that thing. . .and you'll be complete with the movies tongue

I'm not a big fan of the social network. It was just ok to me. Nothing spectacular undecided
Yeah he should have won for TDK. But if he wins this time. . .i'll still rejoice lol.

I also want INCEPTION to win. But I have a feeling it will go to either THE SOCIAL NETWORK or THE KING'S SPEECH.

Clint Eastwood, fast rising?

@Obinna,
Yup, the social network is a strong contender.
As for the King's speech. I won't feel too bad if it won. I'm partial to historicals anyway.

Vesc,
What will you rejoice with? You go carry the tambourines ooo tongue
Re: Hollywood directors: Rate or hate? What's your Take? by vescucci(m): 9:44pm On Jan 14, 2011
Lol. Maurya copied and pasted my first post. It's the percentages that are hers.

I'm allergic to tambourines. They gimme blisters. Let's try that your electric guitar hooked up to my 60GW speakers.

Re: Hollywood directors: Rate or hate? What's your Take? by iice(f): 3:43am On Jan 17, 2011
Your own worse sef grin

I saw the trailer for The Eagle starring Channing Tatum and Jamie Bell.
Before i watched the trailer i was thinking this will be good. It's Jamie Bell and set in Roman Times.
After watching the trailer. . .it would have been ok (though it looks like they carried those Keira Knightley people in King Arthur and the people in Apocalypto into the movie) if not for that Channing guy's accent. Horrible. No not even English or one of those unplaced accents, but that his American accent like he's acting one film in the hood angry
