Tips to get the interview invite with your CV

Before we dive in, make sure you can carry out the responsibilities the position requires and that you communicate that well in your CV.

Let's Dive Right in:

• Use keywords from the responsibilities of the vacancy in your CV - this is to pass the scanning system filter, it's called an Applicant Tracking System (ATS), if it's doesn't find the required number of keywords, your CV won't be shortlisted for even going through. it helps the employer scale through applicant that send generic CVs their way.

• Always tailor your CV to fit the role you're currently applying for, you need to have editable version of your CV always, so you can easily edit it to fit the role, this also help you win the ATS fight.

• Fill your CV with the right ingredients and information.

• Always use clear and legible font type and size (Arial or Times New Roman, Size 10 - 12).

• Stay clear of online generated CV, use it only if you know it will give you the result you require.

• Take care of your CV composition and structure - it make it easier to consume the content.

• Make sure your personal profile gives a good first impression - it will determine if the employer will continue reading or not.

• Don't ever lie or hype anything, come clean and be professional.

• Sell yourself well on that document.

• Don't ever rush to apply for a vacancy, be sure you've given it your best shot then go ahead.

• Don't send your attached CV with an empty email body.

• Don't copy and paste your cover letter as your email body, draft something real.

• Say No to overnight CV creation process.

• Make sure you use a professional email address (firstname.surname@youremailprovider.com). I'll recommend Gmail because of it numerous benefits.

• Sell yourself better in every section of your CV, use the Hobbies and Interest section to your advantage.

Take action and get that interview invite you deserve!

if you fall victim of any of the list above, take corrections.

See you in my next post on how to write your Personal Profile that sends the right impression of you.

How to use the Hobbies and Interest Section of your CV to your Advantage as listed lastly above

An Example

Instead of just doing this:

HOBBIES AND INTEREST

• Designing
• Reading
• Traveling

Do this instead :

Hobbies and Interest

Designing, Reading and Travelling:

• Volunteered to design e-flyers for an NGO fundraising event.
• Successfully read 10 books on leadership, Success and Goal Setting last year.
• Travelled around Africa to see first hand the dynamics in cultures, Europe next!

Can you tell me what you've just done there by following this.

You've just made it clear that you are an achiever, you showed your strengths more and your accomplishments and just with that little Hobbies and Interest Section.

Conclusion : Find ways to portray yourself well.
