ok, its good news. It only means we are growing but still have a long way to catch up

Canada GDP 2010, $1.6 trillion (pop. 33 million) only 1% growth

Nigeria GDP 2010, $374 billion (pop. 150 million) with 10% growth

It’s like a kindergarten delighted he/she can recite "ABC" while a university student disappointed with a C+ in Quantitative Economics

True. A lot of work needs to be done but the key is in your % numbers Nigeria is growing at an increasing rate while Canada is growing at a decreasing rate.

You are the one confusing yourself. The report says growth, nothing more than that.Yes, increase in GDP is an evidence of growth but the report failed to tell us more about the contribution of various sectors of the economy to the growth in GDP.The growth could have been as a result of recent increase in pump price due to the crisis rocking oil producing nations. This i consider temporary, and does not support the 2011-15 projection. No doubt, GDP growth if effectively and efficiently utilised leads to economic development. But the question remains, will the growth be managed well?

Dude how am I confusing myself ? There is a clear difference between Growth and Development, no offense but we all studied this in economics classes. Like I said, the report says growth and someone asked what index was used and I replied, they were looking at the GDP value. The reason why I mentioned development was because a lot of folks on here are saying that the average masses haven't enjoyed the growth, and my reply was again, though a country GDP grows, but unless they develop, the average masses won't feel it. While it's often good that Growth and development rise at same time, please just because you grow doesn't necessarily mean you will develop at same rate. As for the other question if it will be managed well, or if it's temporary, or the report doesn't specify what areas of growth etc, that is secondary at the moment. Bottom line, the report says we are growing, and IMO, though oil exports accounts for it, it's highly unlikely that it's due to rising oil prices. I strongly believe that little manufacturing within our industry is also affecting it as well as services offered.

I'm not surprised that Nigeria is on that list. I might not know my economics but i know that in the last ten years, Nigeria has produced uncountable Billionaires who unfortunately are mostly thieves angry If there was no money flowing into the system, the thieves wouldn't have had anything to steal. Its just a pity that the common man does not get a taste of this economic growth.

Growth and prosperity are two different things. The fact that people are suffering does not mean the country is not growing. It is definitely happening. What you can just say is that there is no equal distribution of wealth. that some people are stealing most of the weatlh, does not mean there is no growth. If there's no growth, there'd be no money to steal.

Funny, but that has nothing to do with economics, it's mainly because Nigeria is an equatorial region.

Nigeria has been growing since 1999, why are you all surprised. Just proves that many don't even know whats going on in their own country. The main reason for the growth is the private sector in Nigeria and not oil as some people are saying.

while international investor are running to Nigeria to invest you have Brain drain Nigerians going overseas. Then you come on here and say the Lebanese, Indians, Germans etc are in control of almost every business in Nigeria.

Who is the fool, the one that left or the one that came and is making money. Like I always say, Nigeria is the most prosperous place in Africa to start a business, Its a shame many Nigerians are too blind to see it.

and who are the ediots talking silly words about my mentor*dangote*. If I may ask you, how many people have you employed to work for you in your entire life on earth??. Regarding the richest black man as a glorified retailer, a man with the largest cement factory in west africa yet you guys keep saying ''he imports cement and rebrand to sell @ a higher price'' . . If it was easy being a retailer why haven't you become a 'glorified' one? Oh! You think wealth is all about ranting terminologies. . No wonder people keep 'begging' with their CVs to work for him despite their 'glorified' degrees.

For real, these positive Economic growth reports flying in our faces every day surely should serve as a sign to WE Nigerians that if we invest in Nigeria today, however small it is, in 10years time ones business is 'highly likely' to become medium scale business outfit with steady and robust prospect.

Those who say Nigeria is growing but NOT developing are in denial of the truth. Nigeria certainly is developing, albeit at a much slower pace and the development is UNEVEN.

But again, we should not continue to allow these oyinbo economist to project for us what we will become. We need to do this ourself!

190 has always been a fat PHOOL.

Just no need wasting your precious time on such person.

Most Nigerians just have the believe that Nigeria cant attain any better position and be able to compete effectively with other developing countries. And thats why they take pleasure in arguing any thing that tells good of Nigeria.

But given them the opportunity, they ABSOLUTELY contribute NOTHING to the countries development.

But why arguing what others have research on or worked hard to attain.

NIGERIA has MORE MOSQUITO, NIGERIA HAS GOATS ON THE STREET, what have you done on your own miserable life to improve the country.

some people take chances in showing how foolish they and their lineage are

Mr Sycophant, no one holds the monopoly to insults. Nigeria may be called the giant of Africa bla bla bla yet we all know what obtains in reality. Call a spade a spade. He is still a glorified retailer. When I see him go into iron & steel production, electricity, telecoms and the likes, I would view him as an industrialist de jure.
