Almost everyone I knew while growing up had heard at least one version of the story.
I love that story so much, not because it is true but because it has served me a lot.


Most of the time I employ it in my analogies to illustrate to some idiots that the fact that an idea or story is very popular and well accepted does not necessarily make it true.

The version I heard growing up was that the ball turned to tiger anytime the Indians shot it at our goalkeeper. And that the ball turned to a rock when the Nigerian striker was about to kick it, but he still kicked it anyway, scored and died right there on the field.

The version of the story I heard was that whenever India kicks the ball towards the Nigerian goal post, the ball will turn into a solid rock, or it will turn to Tiger head to scare away the Nigerian goal keeper

The version I heard was that when they kicked the ball @ the 18yard box, what the goal keeper would be looking at was a lion. Immediately it lands inside the net, it turns to a soccer ball..I managed to ask for the name of the Goal keeper, no name was supplied.

Only God knows why i fell for that crap back then. India? a non footballing nation that are only good at cricket? yet we all fell for it; especially that thunder balogun shot that turned to stone and pierced through the belly of Indian keeper. Chei!

It was the relic of the lack of TVs and Videos in those days. Remember how those who watched a movie (cowboy, Indian film) will come to school to tell you how the Actor jumped over the burning train while dodging bullets...while the rest of us will open our mouths in wonder.

Lack of TV was not all that a contributing factor... It was ignorance and believing anything and everything with no question asked.....Kids of nowadays were more curious that when we were born...I don't know if it's the fact that many parent are now more liberal .

I remembered watching my favorite movie in the early 90s as a kid "The Delta Force".. I believed everything....Also, I was in SS3 when I discovered that Wrestling was fake...
