TenQ: Almost everyone I knew while growing up had heard at least one version of the story. I love that story so much, not because it is true but because it has served me a lot. Most of the time I employ it in my analogies to illustrate to some idiots that the fact that an idea or story is very popular and well accepted does not necessarily make it true. 11 Likes |

This was the match we lost out very own Pele in the name of Samuel okwaraji......he died for the glory of his country by taking the last penalty against a ball that turned to lion head...dying in the process 6 Likes 1 Share |

Dayvidblue:Very correct. I wonder how nobody debunked it logically. It meant that at least one goal was scored in less than 60seconds after center play. 3 Likes |

DREAMZZZ:The version I heard growing up was that the ball turned to tiger anytime the Indians shot it at our goalkeeper. And that the ball turned to a rock when the Nigerian striker was about to kick it, but he still kicked it anyway, scored and died right there on the field. 2 Likes |

This is just a video film that was far recorded back then, you should have asked what is really happening when they are on the pitch. From their account they said they were seeing ball turning to something else. And I guess you should ask ourselves why is india not playing for world cup... Why did you thing they kept them away for so long till now that they are accepting them to play again all because of their tallis 1 Like |

The version of the story I heard was that whenever India kicks the ball towards the Nigerian goal post, the ball will turn into a solid rock, or it will turn to Tiger head to scare away the Nigerian goal keeper |

abeniagbon: Wrong Indian qualified for the world cup as far back as 1950 but voluntarily withdrew from participating in that edition and have failed to qualify for the finals ever since then. They have played in2 countless afc tournaments from 1950 till date which is a recognised fifa tournament and even made some appearances at the soccer event of the Olympics. The notion that fifa banned Indian from playing football at any given time is false. You check the full history of Indian football here https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_India_national_football_team The 99-1 story is simply an urban legend as Indian has never faced nigeria in any senior men's football match ever. 3 Likes |

TenQ: Kids born in the '70s '80s and '90s were taught not to argue with the elders even when they were obviously lying... I heard it also but I never took it seriously... The version I heard was that when they kicked the ball @ the 18yard box, what the goal keeper would be looking at was a lion. Immediately it lands inside the net, it turns to a soccer ball..I managed to ask for the name of the Goal keeper, no name was supplied. 1 Like |

richiemcgold:It was the relic of the lack of TVs and Videos in those days. Remember how those who watched a movie (cowboy, Indian film) will come to school to tell you how the Actor jumped over the burning train while dodging bullets...while the rest of us will open our mouths in wonder. Beautiful days though! 1 Like |

TenQ:Lack of TV was not all that a contributing factor... It was ignorance and believing anything and everything with no question asked.....Kids of nowadays were more curious that when we were born...I don't know if it's the fact that many parent are now more liberal . I remembered watching my favorite movie in the early 90s as a kid "The Delta Force".. I believed everything....Also, I was in SS3 when I discovered that Wrestling was fake... Someone showed me the background making and it puts me off till date... I was a lover of Wrestling until I discovered that I was being fooled. 1 Like |

My pops believed this shit till he died, my mom and most of my siblings believe the cap story too, some will say the ball get engulfed in fire or turn into a boulder, others will say the ball duplictes and confuse our players, the most ridiculous lie was the ball turning to lions, tigers or snakes and chasing our players around the pitch.Even as a kid the story sounded so fake to me and that was the age I believed that orange seeds that was swallowed grew in the stomach with it's branches growing out through the ears. 1 Like |

Richy4:Of course parents are now more liberal and children easily find them accessable for any kind of questions. In those days, you spent most of your time with older relations (from the village) living in your house. You can just imagine the kind of answer you'll get from such |
