The corpse of a mother of three, Fatimo Olamide, is being held at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital’s morgue over N860,000 outstanding medical bill.
According to The PUNCH, Olamide was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital for a terminal illness and underwent surgery before she died on Monday, February 14.

Her father, Shamusideen Shobowale, a 64-year-old retiree, said the family had spent about N1 million – sourced from relations and friends – on Olamide’s treatment and were only able to raise N200,000 out of the N860,000 outstanding.

Shobowale, who retired as a head watchman at Ikorodu Senior Grammar School, said Olamide was supposed to be buried in accordance with Islamic rites, lamenting that the family was sad the burial was being delayed.

He urged the state government and well-meaning Nigerians to come to his aid so that his daughter’s would be released for burial soon.

He said, “My daughter was admitted at LASUTH early this month and she underwent a surgery. We spent about N1 million on her treatment but she later died. We are appealing for solidarity so that she can be buried. She is survived by her husband and three children.
“Our hospital bill is N860,000. The family contributed and we could only raise N200,000. I don’t have any means to pay the bill and the hospital is insisting that we should look for the money. I retired about two years ago but till now I have not got my entitlement.”
In a response to a text message requesting whether the hospital would give the family any concession, the LASUTH Chief Medical Director, Prof Adetokunbo Fabamwo, simply said, “The Medical Social Work Unit takes care of cases like this.”

Life!

My candid piece of advice...if you like your family and loved ones, don't mistakenly take them to LASUTH. There's a lot of politics playing out there. Rather proceed to LUTH. Na Tinubu people full LASUTH, including his diagnostic centre which he hijacked from the hospital and named BT ( Bola Tinubu) Diagnostics. I wish humans could live forever. Smh!

Then two days after doing that the family will turn up with the money.
They way you said this casually, it's as if we're talking about a ram's corpse here

Minimum wage is 35k, Nigerians are really suffering. cry
This money is for the bills alone, they will still have to raise money for the burial and then have to pay the debt after

Can't blame the hospital a least they didn't stop treatment because the family didn't have money, they keep treating until it's finally over some hospital won't even attend to emergency accident victims unless huge sum is deposited

Perfect opportunity for the clinical schools to obtain cadaver for anatomical sessions.
He should not worry himself about payment. Let the dead bury themselves.

But then let's digress. Shouldn't hospitals offer refunds if patients die in their care?

Cardavar to be donated for science.

This is what I am planning to have them do with my body (after my demise), donate my vital organs to the sick who needs it and deposit the remain of my body as cadaver for science research to teach intending medical doctors, this is part of the reasons i live a moderate lifestyle so my organs could still by re-used by another.

However I am yet to begin the process. Some paper works need to be filed.

If lasuth has insisted they won't treat without first collecting their money like private hospitals do we will still be the one to castigate them
