The United Kingdom (UK) has agreed to pay the sum of £210k to Nigeria following a successful investigation by the UK’s Serious Fraud Office (SFO) relating to the use of corrupt agents in the oil and gas sector. According to a statement on Monday by the UK High Commission in Abuja said, a British firm, Amec Foster Wheeler (AFWEL), was investigated by the UK’s Serious Fraud Office (SFO) in 2021 and found guilty of using corrupt agents in the oil and gas sector from 1996 to 2014 in Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, India and Brazil.
