As the war conflict in Ukraine worsens, Uefa is considering abandoning St Petersburg as the site of this year’s Champions League final.

The final of Europe's most prestigious club championship is set to take place on May 28th in Russia's second-largest city, but Uefa is facing mounting pressure to change the location after Russian President Vladimir Putin revealed his plan to send soldiers into Ukraine's eastern Donbas region.

The current Uefa position is that the match will be held in St Petersburg, but it is known that the situation is fluid, with officials exploring backup options. Because of Covid, the Champions League final has been rescheduled in both of the previous two seasons.</p>
