Why I Resigned From Tinubu Campaign Team — Senator Abbo

A senator representing Adamawa North, Senator Elisha Abbo has revealed his reasons for resigning from the campaign team of All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Recall that there had been mixed reactions from Nigerians when Tinubu announced Senator Kashim Shettima – a Muslim as his running mate.

Senator Abbo who was a member of the Tinubu Support Organization (TSO) resigned after the announcement.

Speaking on Arise TV, Abbo said he resigned because he can not continue to support his party for adopting a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

He added that his conscience will not free him to support the political move.

Lamenting the move, he said the decision was “Irresponsible, insensitive and ignorant of the country’s political system.”

He further denounced his loyalty to Tinubu while saying the party’s constitution was not considered before the decision.

Abbo stated that “You can’t be loyal to a government that breaks its own constitution.

“I’ve been one of the fighters, even before he (Tinubu) came out that he wanted to contest for this office.”

Abbo who alleged to be among those that brought victory to Tinubu at the APC Primaries said “His first act as a candidate of the party was to be against the constitution.

“How do you command loyalty from people you’ve thrown away?”

He further alleged that the APC Presidential candidate did not consult anybody before taking the decision.

”The truth is he didn’t consult anyone. There was no consultation.

“What he did was, they had made up their mind from the beginning that they would bring in Shettima as the vice-presidential candidate of the APC,” he said.

The aggrieved senator revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari had rejected Tinubu as a running mate in 2015.

Meanwhile, he cleared the air on whether he would be dumping the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), saying he would not make his decision because of one person.

He however said, “We will remain in the APC and clean APC of this rot.”

Huge Tragedy as Gunmen Invade Residence of Popular Northern Pastor, Kill Sons, Abduct Teenage Daughter

Another huge tragedy has struck in Adamawa state as gunmen attacked the residence of Reverend Daniel Umaru

The criminals are alleged killed the cleric’s sons and abducted his his 13-year-old daughter in a midnight attack

Umaru was also reportedly shot in the incident and is currently recuperating at the hospital, while his wife was said to be in an unconscious state

Gunmen have invaded the residence of Reverend Daniel Umaru of the EYN Church Njairi, Mubi local government area of Adamawa state, killing his sons and abducting his 13-year-old daughter.

that Umaru was shot in the incident and is currently recuperating at the hospital, while his wife who witnessed the attack is reportedly in an unconscious state.

It was gathered that Humwashi Wonosikou, Press Secretary to Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa, confirmed the incident, saying the gunmen stormed the Reverend’s house around 2am on Wednesday, July 6.

Governor Fintiri has described the attack as shocking and barbaric and charged security operatives to go after the attackers.

“The State Government condemns in the strongest terms the despicable attack on this innocent family; the perpetrators of this heinous act must be brought to justice, and we have offered our full support to the Security Agencies to do so,” Fintiri said.

He added that the state government would continue to confront crime in all its forms, including “the threat posed by kidnappers.”

Fintiri offered his “deepest condolences” to the victims’ families and loved ones, including the Church.

In another report, Innocent Barikor, the deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers state, has escaped an alleged assassination in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

The gunmen who were after Barikor, however, killed his police orderly on the spot. The APC

deputy governorship candidate was said to have left his office at the GRA on Tuesday night, July 5, for a meeting in an undisclosed location without knowing that some gunmen were waiting for him outside.

“Barikor escaped by the whiskers but his police orderly was not fortunate because the bullets hit and killed him on the spot,” a source said.

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Joe Igbokwe, has said Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has travelled to France to meet with the presidential flagbearer of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Concise News learnt that Wike recently travelled to Turkey where he met with Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State. He hasn’t returned to the country since he travelled out.

Also, this paper reported that Tinubu is currently in France where he will be holding an important meeting, according to his aide, Tunde Rahman.

Igbokwe, in a post on Facebook on Thursday, said Wike and Tinubu will be meeting in France. He, however, failed to state what their meeting will be about.

“While they are on Social Media abusing everybody Gov Wike goes to France to meet Asiwaju. Abuse, calling names, hate and bigotry are no strategy. They hated and abused PMB since 2015 and now they have transferred the aggression to Asiwaju. We wait and see,” he wrote.

The meeting, if true, may not be unconnected to the crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party.

On Wednesday, former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, called for the 2023 Presidency to go to the South. This is despite his party already fielding a northerner in the person of former vice president Atiku Abubakar as its presidential flagbearer.

His words also followed an Arise TV interview in which Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State urged the PDP and Atiku to go and beg Wike. According to Ortom, the party had treated Wike badly.

Bullets rained on Thursday after members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) numbering about 50 attacked soldiers with guns and machetes.

MORE reports that no fewer than three suspected members of the proscribed group were killed by the soldiers on guard at First Bank Arochukwu, Abia where the incident occurred.

According to the Abia State Commissioner of Police, CP Janet Agbede, “The soldiers made a counter attack and three of the hoodlums were neutralized during the exchange of firing.

“The superior firing power of the soldiers made the hoodlums to disperse. As at now, effort has been intensified to track down the fleeing hoodlums.”

The Commissioner urged members of the public to report anyone seen with bullet wound to the nearest Police station or any law enforcement agent.

The Rivers Government on Friday dismissed reports that it has ordered the closure of primary and secondary schools in the state over the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

Okpobido, the chairman of the Akwa Ibom State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is dead.

Confirming the news, a top member of the party in the state said that Okpobido died at the Ibom Multispecialty Hospital (IBH), Uyo.

He also revealed that he died of multiple organ failure in the early hour of Wednesday.

Suspected fraudster, Isiaka Olatunde, 35, has revealed how he and his brother, Ismaila Olatunji, used the names of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Leader, and ex-National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki, to effectuate a scam.

They swindled a contractor, Ganiuyu Orimoyi, of N25million after claiming they could help him get contracts from the NSA’s office.

The duo were nabbed by operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari.

In 2014, Olatunji told to the victim that he was an aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan’s NSA, Dasuki.

The contractor recalled that he met Olatunji through his brother, Olatunde, a POP engineer, working for him at one of his building sites in Kwara State.

Orimoyi gave Olatunji the money to obtain documents for the purported contract but things went south after when Dasuki was detained by the Department State Services (DSS) in 2015.

The fake aide lied to Oriyomi that being Dasuki’s aide, his bank accounts were being monitored and had been frozen.

Olatunji also claimed that he was discussing with Tinubu on joining the ruling APC as this would ensure the unfreezing of his accounts.

But After Dasuki was released in December 2019, the brothers disappeared.

Orimoyi recounted that the scammers earlier swore they were in India receiving treatment and asked him to visit.

“I went to India, called their phone numbers, they didn’t pick. I had to return to Nigeria. They called me again, saying they feared DSS might be using me to tail them”, The Eagle Online quoted him as saying.

Later, they told him to make a trip to Ghana, from where they were working on becoming members of the APC.

Orimoyi bought ticket, but while in the aircraft, the brothers telephoned him and assured they were returning to Nigeria.

He quickly made his way out of the plane and was held by security agents who ordered him to board again.

“They wanted to know why I stepped out of the plane. I was only released after the plane landed in Ghana. I wrote a petition to the IGP and the case was assigned to the IRT Unit in Osogbo, Osun State. Olatunde, who linked me to Olatunji, was arrested.”

In custody, Olatunde claimed he gave the N25million to a popular Islamic cleric in Offa, Kwara State, known as Alhaji Ismail Mustapha, to prepare money ritual charms for him.

IRT operatives smoked out Mustapha, who during a face-to-face confrontation, denied Olatunde’s accusations.

Olatunde, who later absconded and was rearrested months later, confessed to have lied against Mustapha, adding that he and his brother only collected N8million he and from Oriyomi.

The father of three confessed: “In 2012, I met Oriyomi, who gave me a job to do for him. We became friends and my brother, Olatunji, asked me to lie that he had links to Dasuki. In 2014, I collected the N300,000 and told Oriyomi my brother had issues with his BVN and that whenever he needed money, he would call him.”

Oriyomi sent money regularly to Olatunji and when he realised he had been defrauded, the victim asked Olatunde for the whereabouts his brother.

“I told him my brother was in India receiving treatment. He flew to India, but he didn’t see him”, he recounted adding that by the time Dasuki was incarcerated, Olatunde had collected N8million from Oriyomi.

“When Dasuki was arrested, Oriyomi started disturbing us to refund. My brother suggested we should lie that Mustapha collected the money for ritual. When police brought Mustapha and I together, I accused him repeatedly until he got tired and accepted he would refund Oriyomi’s money.

“Mustapha wrote a counter petition and the case was moved from Osun State to Abuja. When I realised the truth would soon be out at the IRT’s office, I ran to Lokoja, slept in a garage and then travelled to Sango-Ota in Ogun State, where I started a new life. I was there for some months before the IRT arrested me.”

The brothers will be prosecuted in court.

Three hundred and fifty-six (356) soldiers are formally exiting the Nigerian Army citing “loss of interest”, PREMIUM TIMES can report, in a development insiders say is indicative of broken morale in the army.
The army is currently engaged in various combat operations as insecurity worsens across the country.

Many of the soldiers are among the troops engaged in the decade-long war against Boko Haram in the Northeast, while others are from various other formations across the country.

But apart from the 356 who are leaving for losing interest in the army, 24 others are exiting because they want “to take traditional title,” making a total of 380 soldiers, including two Master Warrant Officers and 28 Warrant Officers, voluntarily discharging from the army, according to sources with direct knowledge of the development.

Already, the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, has, this July, approved the voluntary discharge of all the 380 soldiers who are to proceed on terminal leave on December 20 and disengage on January 3 next year in accordance with Nigerian Army Administrative Policy and Procedure 27 Paragraphs 3 and 4, our sources confirmed.

“That the reason given by most of them is ‘loss of interest’ is an indication of low morale in the army due to poor leadership,” one army insider said, claiming the army had been “broken, demoralised and polarised more than ever before under Buratai.”

“It is an indication of the rot in the system,” said another officer who knew about the mass disengagement.

The new Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Western Naval Command, Rear Adm. Oladele Daji, said he will get rid of command of kidnappers, especially in riverine areas.

Speaking with journalists after he took over as 39th FOC of the command in Lagos on Tuesday, Daji said that the navy would do its best to rout kidnappers completely out of the area.

“What we know about kidnapping in riverine areas is that it is on the decrease.

“We are going to rout them out from the source because they don’t live perpetually at sea, they have somewhere that they operate from so we will rout them out.

“What we are coming to do is to build upon what has already been done, maybe to bring fresh ideas to some of the challenges we have out there as the maritime expands,” he said.

He commended President Muhammadu Buhari for acquiring more patrol boats for the navy.

“This is not to say that we have enough because the past maritime expands, but with the use of the Maritime Awareness Domain facilities, we will use these assets provided for us to ensure we accomplish our tasks,” he said.
