I personally do not see any reason why China will outrightly support Russia on this.

The Chinese are really cunny/smart, best bet for them is to be neutral and earn their way out of the two parties.

China supporting Russia on this very invasion is like putting your cart before the horse, it's just senseless and lacks any strong gain to put all their hardwork over the years at jeopardy.

The Chinese need their respect, they want to be seen as a world power too, there free flow of trade, if possible over all the countries in the world, backing Russia over basically little to nothing means they definitely have more to loose!

The only real allies Russia can get at this point; NK, Iran. A combo of NK and Russia will be catastrophic for both parties, as Kim is definitely more mad than Putin and possible unreasonable.

No nuclear war will break out, but this is a win win situation for USA and NATO, Putin literally played into their hands on this. I don't completely blame him tho but this invasion will only push other countries who are still contemplating to rush and sign with NATO, to avoid ever being caught lacking.

It is all over for President Putin.
President Ping of China just threw him under a moving bus.
He did not read extensively to understand China's policy of soft power.
Ukraine and Russia are trading partners of China and, as a state policy, China does not get involved with internal politics of its trading partners.
There are few books I have read about this China's soft power policy and it beats my imagination that President Putin underestimated it.

China will take decisions that is best for its economy regardless of which side benefits or loses.
