Boko Haram: Soldiers Deployment Hits 3,000 In Borno State by jmaine: 4:09am On Jun 28, 2011
Deployment of troops to the troubled city of Maiduguri by the military authorities has hit 3,000, investigations have revealed.

It was learnt that the 3,000 troops were added to the Military Brigade in the Borno State capital and the two Brigades in Mongonu and Barma.

According to a source, who confided in our correspondent on Monday, those in charge of the operation in Maiduguri were considering the immediate disbandment of the use of commercial motorcycles popularly referred to as okada.

It was gathered that the current move was in agreement with the realisation that operatives of Boko Haram were exploiting the commercial motorcycles to carry out their bomb attacks and strikes in the city.

It was learnt that Maj.- Gen. Jack Nwagbo-led military mission to the North-East had insisted on the disbandment of commercial motorcycles in the city as a starting point to confront the latest security challenge.

The source said the military had not made any significant headway but were determined to record some successes as soon as possible.

The source said, “Well, I know that at the moment, about 3000 troops are already in Maiduguri. No. These are soldiers posted there specifically because of the worsening security situation in that part of the country.

“I cannot talk of arrest now. But I think those leading the operations are pushing for a legal framework to stop the use of commercial motorcycles in the area.”

This will not solve it. You cannot trust these soldiers, because many of them sympathize with Boko Haram.

Even in the Niger delta when the military was involved, They had people in the Military providing weapons and sales of such to the militants. Some included even Military information.I do remember in one occasion where a classified military document meant for the DHQ and ministry of defense was intercepted and the details made available to the militants about Government plans to fight militancy. With that said ,no be today! At the end government always have there way.Because the FG has more at her disposal than just a group. The FG would always out live or survive it!!!

I only hope that the soldiers deployed are fellow notherners. Let us not have a repeat of the senseless NYSC killings of southerners, or this time we may be forced to react.

Of course, the government will win round two - militarily. They will find out where these creeps live and "crush" them, like they did last time when Yusuf, the leader, was assassinated in police custody. But then the group will regroup again and more Nigerians will be killed. To prevent that you need intelligence. Watch, intercept, infiltrate, monitor, etc. It appears that was not done last time; once the government assassinated Yusuf they went to sleep. The Nigerian government is not "trying".

Time will tell, but soon Boko Haram will start making mistakes and that will be it if the armies can capitalize on that. However, the identities of these soldiers need to be ascertained.

Irrespective of ethnic affiliations, Nigerian soldiers never disappointed in assignments like this in the past.

An open season on Boko Haram has been declared for all the sharp shooters. In the mean time the army should rev up its PR department.

Let all Jihardists go to Borno state where instant martyrdom is assured.

Let them move a battalion to maiduguri if that is what it'd take to solve this quagmire once & for all!
the sad thing is that most of the time & worse, in most situations the govt is never sincere about solving issues that goes out of hand especially when it relates to the common man.

i wish them what they wish themselves!

while if u go to south west states like lagos u will see majority military are from the north east and west . is a shuffling thing.

Sorry, but Boko Haram are not fighting corruption, they are fighting to force Nigeria to become a Sharia state.

What you wrote above is way off the mark imo. They are fighting you and every other Nigerian's right to live according to their own beliefs , not our "leaders" per se.

@ Topic, the government needs to learn that not every unrest will be solved by military might. It is intelligence gathering which will be more effective. Even with the killing of their leader, threy let an opportunity slip right by, now they are always two steps behind Boko Haram, they are no match for them at this point.

Much intelligence is required if the Army will make a success of this as they did to the Aba kidnap issue. If not, they will fail as they have been failing in Jos and as they did agaoinst MEND. It is not only brawn that is needed, much brain is.
