This will be a very interesting thread. The Op asked a very important question, let's contribute our quota. According to scholars, it is so because it is a running count of the number of years that have passed since an arbitrary choice was made and declared to be year number 1. The number of each year in our current calendar is It based on the birth year of Jesus Christ and not on the creation of the Earth. Most biblical scholars place it somewhere around 4 to 7 BC. The calculated year of Jesus’ birth was labelled 1 A.D. (or Anno Domini, Latin for “Year of the Lord”), with each year after incrementing by one until the current year 2022 . In this system, the year before 1 A.D. was labelled 1 B.C because there is no zero year, with the year before that being 2 B.C. and incrementing by one all the way back to the beginning of time, which is currently theorized to be around 14 billion B.C. In the modern age, people have started referring to A.D. to the religiously neutral C.E (Common Era) and B.C.E. (Before the Common Era). However, some people just assume that means Christ’s Era and Before Christ’s Era. |

MadeINchenzen2: How did you know it was AD 33? Because theologians and historians calculated from when he was born, pegging it at 0 AD. He lived for 33 years, hence the date 33 AD. The year 2022 is 2,022 years after he was born. Kappuch?! |

People with preserved cultures from all over the earth keep time differently. For example, the Chinese year is 4718 while Ethiopians are about 7-8 years behind AD. For the Chinese, it may be from the death of an emperor or some sort. The ugly truth is that we do not know what time we are in time . Also, we do not know where we are in the Solar System or Galaxy. Ancient civilizations around Mexico (Maya, Aztec especially) kept time for millenniums. For example, their longest calender cycle is 63 million years and it has significant tracing to position of stars and other planetary bodies in space. |

Dating started after mankind was created not before. Hence the issue you're begging for answers about. If you're a Christian, you will understand the Bible says and " the earth was " meaning even at the creation of Life, the earth was already existing. All dating procedures takes into account the existence of the earth, while regular calendering takes into account the duration of mankind's existence on earth. Hence all major calendars are dated based on : YEARS BEFORE REIGN OF DAVID + YEARS TILL CHRIST WAS BORN + YEARS AFTER CHRIST WAS BORN TILL NOW which combined equates to around 4000 - 5000 + years. Nite, you said 2022. First question is what calender are we using, where is the start of the counting, there lies your answer. 2022 years after Christ. So, there you have your answer |

MadeINchenzen2: Perhaps you have a thick skull to comprehend. No human can date back to when the world was created, so theologians and historians used Jesus Christ's birth as benchmark in calculating years after his birth, naming the year of his birth 0 AD. If what i typed here makes no sense to you, then you have a problem. |

All the data from Earth and beyond has led to the estimated age of 4.5 billion years for our planet. The age of rocks is determined by radiometric dating, which looks at the proportion of two different isotopes in a sample. As for our present year 2022 it is counted from 1BC/1A.D(since there's no zero year) That is “A.D." (stands for anno domini, Latin for “in the year of the lord,” )which began at the birth of Christ(speculated to have been 2BC/1BC. So, we are 2,021 years from such date. |
