Most especially a family that's been wanting to have a male child or had history of stillbirth.

I've read all the replies above and I'm very disappointed.

So, if those asking want to bring gifts for your baby, how would they when they don't know the sex of the baby.

Come on, stop the myopic reasoning.

Giving birth is the second most painful thing a human can experience – The first is being burned alive.

lipsrsealed
been steamed alive is worse than been burnt alive and there are many more pain than giving birth

Having a baby is hard work and people need to appreciate the Labor pain woman passthrough. Labor is one of the most severe pains which has ever evaluated and its fear is one of the reasons ladies does not want to marry.

Now, what I have observed so far whenever woman give birth, the next questions will be weitin u born? Na boy or girl? . To me, I think this is most annoying question. Why not congratulate the woman first instead of asking unnecessary questions.

Why some Nigerians like asking this question?
It makes complete sense to ask for the baby's gender, just to show you're interested in the baby and the news. I bet if you told someone you just gave birth and the person just said "nice one" you'd feel bad...

Nobody is concerned about your child's gender, it's just a normal, social question... Don't overthink. undecided

It's actually no big deal and before you compare with the western countries, over there, they aren't vague when breaking news of their baby's birth. They aren't unnecessarily superstitious to conceal their newborn's sex so you wouldn't even need to ask about the sex in the first place cheesy
Exactly. Some of them even organize a sex/gender reveal party BEFORE birth, just to announce the sex of the unborn baby.

Na our muchi muchi (being secretive) dey bring such curiosity from well wishers.

My junior sister put to bed late January and I come to know the baby gender on this week Wednesday.
If not for the pix of the baby Posted on family WhatsApp, I wouldn't have known till now.
God is a giver of children
Accept this precious gift.

It's the next most intelligent question after knowing a woman has given birth to a child and they want to know is it a male or female child?

This question comes usually only then they know it's a safe delivery for both the mother and child!

I wonder o. This woke generation believes in getting triggered over every little thing and that's a huge problem.

Imagine telling someone you just gave birth and they didn't even bother asking any further question... Same lady would feel bad about it and complain again. This life, you can't satisfy humans.

Not asking is hypocritical, synthetic and cosmetic.

Men and women are different- sex organ, voice, mannerisms, physical strengths etc

Gender equality does not imply denial of such difference. It rather means that
men and women, albeit different, should enjoy equal humanity and be fairly placed in their world.

It is only when this difference is recognized and even celebrated that a genuine conversation on gender can be realized.

In fact, it's this difference that gave rise to gender consciousness in the first place.

We had better not play the ostrich about it.

Nope... Not asking is respecting boundaries especially when you are not very close to the person.

Person wey read wetin you write now go feel say that's what happens.

Usually, whenever a woman is delivered of a baby, what you'll hear even if it's pretentious is : thank God o!! Before the wetin she born?

The people who usually ask "wetin u born" first are either the husbands or very close family members who have been expecting a specific gender after having a particular gender overtime.

Make una take am easy dey twist tori na.

And who told you one of the reasons girls don't marry is because of childbearing?I understand it may be an issue if the girl is aware of somethings that may prevent her from conception.Hence, she'd not want to be under any pressure after some years in marriage.
Aside that, most if not all sane women marry to have children.
Forget, those who have a warped understanding about marriage claiming civilization.

Because many people think one gender is superior to the other. I don't ask such questions and if you don't tell me, I don't care.

Interestingly, if you don't personally tell me you are expecting or you had a baby, I act like I don't know.
Re: "Wetin You Born" Why people always ask woman this question by Nicetry: 7:28pm On Mar 05, 2022
Because there are two human gender that exist and you must have been given birth to either one of them or both the two gender.. simple
