@kitaun please will you stop misinforming people that a state governor in Nigeria is not in charge of the Federal Police in his state. The police in Lagos State takes its orders from Alausa Secretariat except in a situation where there is conflict between the state and Federal Government, for example, during an impeachment or disobedience of a court order. In a case whereby the state governor disobeys the State House of Assembly, the orders of a Court, orders of the Federal Government, or orders of the National Assembly, the police are then supposed to look to the Federal Government by default. Other than that, the state governor is in charge of the commission of the Federal Police in the state. Thank you very much. |

i don';t think this is 4rm lagos state it is a federal police thing since the police isn't under the state government but the federal govt. Also i heard the same is happenin in benue state (tanx 2 nairaland) Well it doesn't make sense Doe many countries make prostitution illegal a woman's dress sense is nobodi's biz. Why must we bother on flimsy things like this when the countries is mauled in hardship. It's jus a gimmick 2 distract nigerians Useless randy policemen they are jus cowards who know how to fight wit women but if dem hear gunshot now dem go dey run |
Re: Lagos Girls Versus Governor Fashola by yemmight(m): 12:10pm On Aug 07, 2007 |
Seun, Pls u made a statement that someone should shut up while making his/her opinion known, but I think that is unfair. 2ndly u said the Governor is just distracting u. I stongly oppose that too. Whatever directive the Governor might have given to The Police, u & I know they will over do things & not addressing the issues. U also said Fashola does not care about moral society, Haba! This is a man that you rarely known. I believe the man will review the Police's activities. |

What is the highest ingredient of aggresive sexual behaviour? Visual stimuli. That is why pornography is very dangerous. Do you now understand where iam coming from? What we see on the street these days is pure pornography. It dosent matter how long we argue on these issue, the fact remains that most if not all men are usually aroused by visual stimuli. On a personal note, I believe that if we sincerely want to stamp out societal dangers like HIV and co, we may need to address certain social behaviours like dressing. Going back to the Bible and history, what exactly was the purpose of clothing? Was it not to cover unclothedness? But these days some of the things we call clothes does not cover unclothedness any more!!!! If God decided to make clothes for Adam and Eve after their eyes were opened ( as ours is now!!!), does it not go on to tell how God values the fact that we be properly apparelled. Some people say we should ignore them and mind our own bussiness, but i dont need to remind you that we will achieve more if we ensure that our esteemed ladies are well dressed. It will save us the men the job of doing eyes right when we see ladies!!. So I still give it to Fashola. |
Re: Lagos Girls Versus Governor Fashola by denex: 12:29pm On Aug 07, 2007 |
@yemmight if ordinary you and I can easily know that the police will overdo things, why can't it seep into the dense gray matter of that Fashola that such a directive would be abused. The man wanted to be governor, now he's governor and he doesn't know what governors do. So next thing, he starts chasing after sexy women with tax payers money. Abeg let's impeach Fashola. |

Re: Lagos Girls Versus Governor Fashola by yemmight(m): 1:34pm On Aug 07, 2007 |
Denex, You also need to know that Police in all state are indirectly responsible to state Government. Despite the fact that Governor in any state is still chief security officer in His state, Commisioner will still take the last other from IGP. Issue of impeachment does not even set it at all. You need to understand how it works. Let me call your attention to situation in Ibadan where thugs will lay a siege at the entrance of an incubemt governor and police will distance themselves for the sucessful plot. At the end of it allthe story being that they take order from Abuja. I agree with you that we have experience illegal arrest in the past few weeks but what I know firmly is that Fashola will not allow the ugly incident to continue as a number of pple have made passionate appeal to the Governor. But once again my brother we must address real issue here. |
Re: Lagos Girls Versus Governor Fashola by jaso1(m): 2:46pm On Aug 07, 2007 |
now i understand the stand of those that contesting the issue. those that mention impeachment will definitely be koro fashion and this topic can only end here, fashola did not hear or read all your contentious, you better go where your voice can gain audience. |
Re: Lagos Girls Versus Governor Fashola by Keziah(f): 2:56pm On Aug 07, 2007 |
I just think Fashola should look into this matter more critically. In a state like Lagos we already have enough trouble so far, but if he persist then we are in trouble because if this directive succeed the next thing he will be after is arresting ladies with bleached skin, artificial nail, artificial hair (Weaveon and the rest), artificial make-up and etc and before u know it we become as natural as the original Adam & Eve in the garden of Eden. By then we won't be practising Democracy any longer but Naturalism |
Re: Lagos Girls Versus Governor Fashola by Nobody: 3:14pm On Aug 07, 2007 |
Now he's telling us what to wear and what not to wear. very soon, he's going to be telling us what to say, what not to say, where to go and where not to go, what to do and what not to do and in the bin goes our human rights. He has to be stopped. |
Re: Lagos Girls Versus Governor Fashola by funmeme(f): 4:02pm On Aug 07, 2007 |
To be realistic some ladies are just taking it 2 d extreme and there must be a solution 2 dis That's a good idea though but on the other hand he shud be more careful. dis is another means of income 4 the police so ladies, let's be more careful we are matured enough to dress smartly without exposing our body so lets be smart. |
Re: Lagos Girls Versus Governor Fashola by temmysexy(f): 4:29pm On Aug 07, 2007 |
i think this is really silly. heard girls in places like ikeja, oshodi, agege, iyana-ipaja, etc, are being harrassed. i dnt think this is fair. pls i need the police to come over to silverbird cinema, the palms shopping mall or even tantalizers on adetokunbo ademola to arrest girls. Fashola, i love u so much, stop disappointing lagosians. there are more pressing issues to be attented to than this. Eko oni baje oooooo! |
Re: Lagos Girls Versus Governor Fashola by Egavlas(m): 7:00pm On Aug 07, 2007 |
You know, Its funny that no one here has posted a link to a story where the govt. officials and police are reported arresting students with braided hair and girls with skimpy dresses. I admit that I didnt read through the whole posts but if someone posted a link somewhere, I would like to know. Please, lets read such a story from any of these sources: Guardian, Thisday, Dailyindependent, Punch, businessday and then we can be sure of what we are saying. Even channels tv news(which I follow religously), has not reported this and they never side anyone nor cover up the truth. The fact is that the women seen above are actually prostitutes and they confirmed to it(Report on channels tv). The other major reason they were arrested is that robbers use their rooms as hideouts to which a couple of em admitted. I cannot believe that KAI or nigerian police in whatever form could have gone into *UNILAG* to arrest male students on account of braided hair without hell and highwater being let loose. The story of braided hair arrest started when some area boys on mainland were arrested and among them were their members with braided hair. I have a neighbour whose braids are very thick and prominent and no one has arrested him. For goodness sake Fashola is a SAN and knows what human rights means and knows the implications of some actions. Having said that, any pointless arrest, would most definitely be from some overzealous and misinformed(illiterate) local govt. officials and would not necessarily be an order from Fashola |

NA WAO . . . @dENEX are u telling me that ur love for Jimi Agbaje is that thick for u to accept that no form of calumny against Fashola can work Fashola is the CSO of Lagos state in principle, but in issues of state, he barely has a say, do I need to remind u of what Adedibu used the Police in Oyo to do? or how Ngige was bundled out of office? did he order his own transition into captivity? can u pls quote anywhere where it has been indicated in any media that Fashola ordered their arrest? am not defending the stupidity or otherwise of the action of the Police in arrsesting those they did, but what I despise is giving the dog a bad name just to crucify it even Fashola would use this as a point to campaign for the use of State police, so who wonders why the state Govt has kept quite over these issues? u can keep ranting all u want, but best believe Fashola's govt will never be rattled by trivialities like these, the young and dynamic governor has more on his neck than grapevine gist to bother his head about @Zigbo am sure u dont wanna go there with me . . . . keep ur words on the low with me, am trying hard to be civil here |
Re: Lagos Girls Versus Governor Fashola by kitaun(m): 3:52am On Aug 08, 2007 |
@Femionasan thanx for providing these links http://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art2007080620571543 which clearly shows Muhammad Abubakar the CP of Lagos was responsible for the raiding of the girls and did not even claim to take orders from any one and; http://www.nigeria-law.org/ConstitutionOfTheFederalRepublicOfNigeria.htm#NigeriaPoliceForce with special emphasis on that portion section 215 (4) which reads; 4) Subject to the provisions of this section, the Governor of a state or such Commissioner of the Government state as he may authorise in that behalf, may give to the Commissioner of Police of that state such lawful directions with respect to the maintenance and securing of public safety and public order within the state as he may consider necessary, and the Commissioner of Police shall comply with those directions or cause them to be complied with: Provided that before carrying out any such directions under the foregoing provisions of this subsection the Commissioner of Police may request that the matter be referred to the President or such minister of the Government of the Federation as may be authorised in that behalf by the President for his directions the last [paragraph clearly connotes that the Commisioner might request for permission from superior quarters i.e President, IGP or Minister of Police Affairs to effect certain orders issued by the Governor or a Commisioner doesnt it just make sense that the Governor's order can be flouted? as far as it contracdicts interests of the powers above like the Yorubas will say . . . otito lo ma leke meaning the truth vilifies y'all should let Fashola be . . . Impeachment ko Comportment ni |
Re: Lagos Girls Versus Governor Fashola by zigbo(f): 4:04am On Aug 08, 2007 |
kitaun: wat was dat lol. . . . the point is; who ever the heck is behind that order,be it fashola or who ever the hell it wants to be is insane nd jobless, meanwhile there's a lot to be done in that state. |
Re: Lagos Girls Versus Governor Fashola by dayokanu(m): 8:39am On Aug 08, 2007 |
Knowing Nigerian police and their ways nobody should be suprised. Police have been doing stop and search for ages now arresting guys who have as much as a browsing ticket in their pocket and nobody linked this to Tinubu or whichever govt was in power then. Police stopped a friend one day searched him and saw a drivers license in his wallet they now arrested him for having a drivers license and not driving a car/owning a car!!! Nobody tied this incident to Tinubu or Obasanjo. Police have been collecting money on the street/roads for ages now despite all said and nobody criticised the Federal govt Now a question; Did Fashola expressly approve/order this actions? If your answer is Yes kindly state source and if no why the campaign of calumny on Fashola |
Re: Lagos Girls Versus Governor Fashola by doyin13(m): 8:51am On Aug 08, 2007 |
Even if Fashola did not expressly give the orders, should we not take his silence as tacit consent. Besides he is meant to be in the know abt the gros unconstitutionality of these arrests, as he is a SAN and all. |
Re: Lagos Girls Versus Governor Fashola by dayokanu(m): 10:47am On Aug 08, 2007 |
Because Tinubu and OBJ were not vociferous against stop and search means they supported it? The police CP has a duty to safeguard lives and he goes about it in a way he likes I think the police is only answerable to the IG and probably the Commander in Chief of the Forces Yar' Adua and not under the state governor. |
Re: Lagos Girls Versus Governor Fashola by Matured26(m): 11:15am On Aug 08, 2007 |
Maybe we need a little bit of info here. In as much as I think that the ladies rights are been infringed upon, pls bear in mind that the Lagos State House of Assembly passed this bill before the raiding commenced. So be informed that according to Lagos State, it is now an offence to dress indecently. Again the question would spring up that how do we measure what is decent and what is not Whatever the case, pls Nairaland ladies, don't be caught in the web of this act 'cos we wouldn't even have the opportunity of reading your post here for the next few days. Try to be modest A word is enough for the wise. |
Re: Lagos Girls Versus Governor Fashola by Keziah(f): 1:33pm On Aug 08, 2007 |
Pls someone should put me right with this. Is it true that ladies are also being arrested for wearing trousers and knickers? I heard they are also being arrested because of that in my vicinity. The other day in my compound, two parrents were burning their daughter's clothes: the ones they assume would warrant an arrest (trousers and knickers inclusive) and their daughters were battling with them to save their clothes. When i asked them what was happening, they gave me the story and also told me that, they said if one is arrested and anybody comes to the rescue such will also be arrested. So pls people i want to know if this is really true before i make my comments. |

Well u guys know the system is so corrupt, then just give the police N150 they will let them free. Never mind the armed robbers they will "pick race". Like the Oceanic bank Bank robbery of last year in VI. |
Re: Lagos Girls Versus Governor Fashola by jaso1(m): 2:52pm On Aug 08, 2007 |
@dennex You just made a point now, i want you to superhead the impeachment by mere playcard display and see how you will be rewarded for your ignorance. I can see how beheading head can be primary observation for headache from your communique since emegence of the topic. is anything personal btwn you and Fash abi why are you so devious about your monotonous solution? |
