Did You Get A Call From Thisday Newspaper About 2023 Election? by Pacesetterz: 7:44pm On Mar 10, 2022
This evening a friend got a call from ThisDay Newspaper with the line 0700 123 6205 telling him that they are carrying a survey on the 2023 elections and he felt uncomfortable giving answers. Asking how they got his number, the responder said they picked lines at random to carry out the survey.

He explained everything that happened to him and I felt I should ask the house if they also got such call from ThisDay newspaper today.

What is poor in this journalism?
This is a standard way press outfits worldwide use in conducting surveys/opinion polls.
They pick numbers at their disposal at random(to avoid bias),then ask you a set of questions to gauge % opinion on an issue or a contest.
Even prior to elections they use it to gauge who people are likely to vote for in an election.

no..but sound like a scam
What is the scam here?
They wouldn't ask for your bank details or ask you for money,so where is the scam here?
It's an opinion poll. They may want to find out for eg who the responder prefers as the president amongst a set of potential candidates.
They may also ask how you rate the performance of Buhari for eg or how much you currently buy fuel.

During elections, they have the right to meet the people at the polling units.... And have live broadcast.... And also seek people's election.

If we're to go by your submission, Anybody can randomly call you to claim he's from CNN and you will begin to respond to whatever is asked.

Really? Hmm

My friend asked them how they got his number, they said they’re picking numbers at random. Are our lines no longer private or what? A national newspaper accessing individuals data without consent?

The caller asked of his location and LG too
Asked if he would participate in 2023 elections?

CNN,BBC randomly call people in their countries to do what ThisDay is doing.
It's called an opinion poll for God's sake!
If you don't know what an opinion poll is and how it's conducted, simply Google it.
You people don't know something, won't accept superior opinion and still won't use Google that is free to improve your knowledge!!
Which kind of village mindset is that for God's sake.

Just tell me which kind of fraud can someone do with your number that is easily available? Those using it don't know your name or address or any other vital information about you, they just have access to the number,so how can it be used for fraudulent or sinister purposes.
You go to bank you submit your number, you go to hospital you submit your number, your CV has your number, when you apply for something you attach your number.
Twitter,Facebook,Instagram,Telegram etc have your numbers.
Your secondary school, university faculty and NYSC batch(the latter two I doubt you passed through with this level of ignorance),have your number, accessible in the year book to everyone in those aforementioned groups.
Even local nairaland has about 2-3million phone numbers in its database. What fraud can Seun commit with just having your number.
People even sell bulk numbers to companies and individuals for advertisement,marketing/business purposes.
Your ignorance of what ThisDay is doing in this 2022 is so unbelievable for something that can use the internet,I can't even believe I am chatting with an educated person.
It's called an opinion poll and telephone calls is one of the fastest and cheapest ways to do it for God's sake!

You may also be correct. That too is in no way fraudulent or a scam as I have tried in exasperation to make the posters above understand.
A political party agent may call you trying to influence you to vote for his/her candidate.
They may even call you to find out if you have a voters card,if you say no,they encourage you to go get registered.
Even in the worst case scenario they may ask for your address and if you decide to give them, their intent maybe for their agents to come to your house and encourage or persuade you to vote for so,so party or candidate.
Tinubu,Atiku,Amaechi,Osinbajo for eg may want to get in direct contact with potential voters to try to persuade them to vote for them if they eventually emerge candidates.
In advanced societies, that's how they do politics and run part of their campaigns even when they over there were still using analog phones.
But if it's a ThisDay employee as the OP said the caller identified himself, then I am 110% sure it's an opinion poll they are conducting and nothing more.
Opinion polls are a very important way of improving governance and we should even be encouraging it more in this part of the world and not being sceptical, conspiratory and scared of them.

Even if media want to run a poll now, it's too early...

You will just go to Google and excavate something and come and claim as if you have sense.....

Interviews of this kind is usually conducted during elections.... And it should be inline with INEC rules and regulations.

Now, on my point, anybody can place a call to random people and be asking them questions to ascertain their ambition to contest, but disguised as a media house agent.

If you don't understand me, don't rush to quote me, and be acting like you know something when you literally make use of Google with your empty brain, and be acting nonsense on NL.

You belong to the village.
Your level of reason is that of people in the deepest Nigerian villages of the era before gsm came to Nigeria.
I would continue educating, enlightening and embarrassing your lives if you continue exposing your semi-literate status and still refuse to learn.
