There's high cost of living everywhere, like recently in the US, the cost of gas moved from $2 to $5 per liter.

Just know this fact before thinking of travelling.

Don't be caught unaware.

We've had enough stranded Nigerians in the diaspora already. Don't add to it.

Have enough money SAVED before you think of travelling.

Move this to front page please

Not sure I completely agree bro...from what I understand, anything below 40k Canadian dollars is considered low income, so really you are probably looking at the lower end of the spectrum with the examples in your screenshots. By the way, the unit of measure for fuel sales in the US is gallons and not litres.

Nigerians will travel to America or western world, leave their 3 bed apartment to live in combo apartment, the size of closet. the kind of house they will not stay in Nigeria. The reason is that the cost of this combo apartment per month is your one year 1 bed apartment rent in Nigeria inside life . Meanwhile, they will take pictures in front of skyscrapers building and post on social media
I LL trade the 3bed apartment for good dollars in my wallet.

It's better to live in a combo with steady power overt there than to rent 3bed apartment without water and power here.

Besides, most of them have mansions built across the Country

Make i hear word jor!

Don't ever in your life compare US or any other sane clime to Nigeria. You enjoy what you're paying for over there unlike this cursed country......NEPA wont give you light but at the end of the month they will bring outrageous bill and expect you to pay. Anything that goes up in Nigeria remains there, wickedness and corruption is too much in the land. E don cost, e don cost nai we dey hear. Nigerians will never tell you when price drop. If you have the opportunity to Japa do that fast without letting anyone discourage or deceive you.

Rents varies from place to place in the USA

California,New York are high brow expensive areas, there are other American cities with cheaper cost of rent anyone japaing from Nigeria can stay.

As for gas prices I believe they will find a way out of it.

Going to a cheaper city in the US also means that your income will be less undecided

It can't be as bad over there as it is in Nigeria. Things will normalize overtime in US, can you say the same for Nigeria? If I have the means I will also japa, let's go and see what's up there first, nobody should discourage me abeg.

Things will normalise overtime? Lol. What made things to be abnormal in the first place if I may ask you? But eh, don't answer me because my question doesn't necessarily need an answer. You just need to understand the word "inflation". Nothing is coming down, nothing is normalising anywhere, be it Nigeria or USA

There is nothing we are going through which Europe has not experienced ten times worse. If everyone had the run away mentality, there would be no great countries in the world.

Why this post? Is it to make you feel good about the precarious situation we find ourselves in Nigeria? You can Never compare USA to Nigeria no matter the index you use.

In USA you can never go, there are food banks.
Except you want to live the lavida loca you will always find accommodation within your pocket even in Cali and New York. No be person the work for VI the live for ikorodu or okokmaiko.

Please nobody should compare our suffering here (we are truely suferring) with that of USA, there are no basis for comparison.

Modified:
Lowest minimum wage in USA is $7/hr

Minimum wage In Nigeria is 170/hr if you calculate using 22 work days a month, times 8hrs a day.

Note: fuel is sold 200/liter here,
While $4.25/gallon in USA
One Gallon = 3.75 liters.
Our suffer no get rival.

Tell them, OP. I never regretted returning to Nigeria after my program in the US. They said village people were after me when I told my naija colleagues I was returning to Nigeria. Now, we can tell who are the village people chasing today. To the glory of God, my company is now expanding to African countries

I studied a bit in UK and worked small.
Like joke, I no just see that money.
As a student, you can only do part time work, ie 4hrs a day - £500 monthly. And E finish.
After graduation, I was doing 8 hrs a day. about £900 monthly. E still finish.
Rent, transport, gas heating (because of terrible cold), food, visa fees, school fees...
You can't just only work.
You must do another runs to get paper. And that one will chop the remaining of your money.
1, 2, 3, 4 years? Na im I kukuma return like that.

You will just be working as a slave.
Earn money, carry all and pay debts
Earn again, pay debts again!!
over and over and over till you are old.

Those work outside the country, how many was created by Government?
Over 50% of available job in the US is SME,why should that not be replicated here in Nigeria?

Don't we have favourable business environment more than the US? Do we pay taxes like them?

You all youths need to rethink and build our economy.
Those finished products imported into Nigeria where we have its raw materials available here should be harness.
Government can never and will never create all jobs, that's the responsibility of you and I. What is only compulsory on government is the creation of favourable environment which they've done.

It's now left to us to build our economy.

Japa is NEVER an option, it's not Greener over there as proclaim

Bro did you read my comment very well?

Why would a cleaner be paying student loan?

In the United States, the average single worker faced a net average tax rate of 22.4% in 2020, In other words, in the United States the take-home pay of an average single worker, after tax and benefits, was 77.6% of their gross wage.

Now ask yourself how many Jobs dey Nigeria, how many pay benefits and how much is your purchasing power.

Na who get job dey get salary and people wey no get job full Nairaland.

Because your former classmates never start to they buzz you for urgent 2k abi? It's either you don't have them as friends or you are extremely stingy or broke.

What is the point of this post? distract? discourage? You talked about rising inflation, but that seems to be a global trend, and not neccessarily unique to the US/west. Nigeria's is 15 percent while it's roughly half that in most western countries. Besides, inflation normally batter the poor most, and a in a country like Nigeria with nonexistent safety net it is even worst. Also, you seem to be ignorant of the fact that would-be emigres have diverse reasons for leaving, for some it is the security and safety western countries offer, while for others a good health care system and stability are major factors.

Abroad people don’t wake up praying for light to iron their clothes. They don’t put on generators to watch TV and charge their phones. They don’t come back from work and have to go fetch water in jerry cans. They don’t pray for basic things of life. They work very hard without rest but so do many Nigerians in addition to all the problems above

Lol. Like they're not going to spend, right? The question is, can that 31k sustain the earner comfortably without having to share bills with other people? You can only convert whatever that's left for you to naira, you have to live first

Except you live in Nigeria and work for an American firm, converting dollar to Naira doesn't really give any useful financial information cause the person earning in dollars spends in dollars while the person earning in Naira spends in Naira. What matters is the basket worth of the money. For example, someone living in a city can hardly survive on that 31k per annum. Someone who earns 500k in Nigeria will have more money than someone earning the dollar equivalent of that in the US. I think the upside for those living abroad is the basic amenities they enjoy as well as the stability.
