Kogi Assembly Speaker Disgraced As Kabba/Bunu Legislative Council Members Reject N100,000 Endorsement For House of Representatives

The House of Representatives ambition of Hon. Mathew Kolawole, Speaker of Kogi state House of Assembly suffered a disastrous setback over the weekend as the majority members of the Kabba/Bunu Legislative Council rejected the one hundred thousand naira(100,000) for endorsement he sent for each councilor. Our reporter said that the Speaker who is desperately ambitious in clinching the House of Representatives ticket of the All Progressives Congress for the Kabba/Bunu federal constituency suffered serious political blow from the Councillors of majority of the wards in his immediate local government.

An eye witness who is familiar with the politics of the area says, after several days of planning and consultations by his close political followers on his behalf led by his Special Adviser on Political Matters and the Deputy Council Leader of Kabba/Bunu legislative council, the speaker was disappointed that only three councillors out of fifteen were ready to endorse him for House of Representatives seat, a situation that made him to change style by deceiving the councillors that it was for the endorsement of Governor Bello for president, despite that majority of the councilor understood the game plan and insisted that the Governor already has their support and does not need any endorsement.

A Councillor from the Bunu area of the LGA when contacted says the Speaker is not in the position to call them for the endorsement of the Governor after the LGA Chairman Hon Moses Lake have mobilized the entire LGA for the endorsement of the Governor for President in 2021. The vocal female councilor further said they are aware of the antics of the Speaker and will not fall for his game plan. She also said that when the time comes true council will speak in one voice in case there is need for any endorsement.

Another Councilor from Kabba who preferred to speak anonymously told our reporter that only seven out of fifteen councilors fell for the deceit of the Speaker for his endorsement claiming to be for the Governor. He said it is shameful for a number three person in the state not to be able to gather half of his local government legislative council for his endorsement. The councillor said four out of the seven that were present are ready to denounce everything that happened as he claim they were deceived with the name of the Governor.

The Speaker is said to be very angry with the deputy council leader, Hon Smart Adekunle, who is the ring leader of the three councilors loyal to him, as at the time of filing this report. The report says the Speaker said he was deceived into the game with the intention that ten councilors were on ground for the endorsement after collecting the sum of One million naira through a First Bank account number 3155293224 belonging to the said Deputy Council Leader. According to a source close to the Speaker, he has asked the embattled Councilor to refund his money immediately.

The councilors gathered at an hotel in Kabba on Tuesday for the endorsement met four out of the seven threatening to expose the lies they were told that the endorsement was for Governor Yahaya Bello, they said they will write to the media to say what happened and how the whole drama played out.

When our reporter called the council leaders, Towoenifini Mosiko to confirm if the council is aware of such, her number was not reachable.
