Russia would have fired hypersonic missiles: what kind of weapons are they? Russia claims that last week it fired so-called hypersonic missiles at targets in Ukraine for the first time. What kind of weapons are these and what makes these missiles so dangerous? Part of the answer lies in the name of the missiles. Hypersonic indicates that they are much faster than regular long-range weapons or even fighter jets. Fighter planes or the famous passenger plane the Concorde are ‘only’ supersonic.
