Many Nigerians know Yemi Osinbajo just as Nigeria's vice-president, but only a few probably know his unequaled records of achievements as a student, university teacher, lawyer and public servant par excellence. To those who know him very closely, he is a go-getter who has never failed in any task he sets out to accomplish.

If academic accomplishments are anything to boast of, Prof Yemi Osinbajo towers above his political rivals. He set an undiminishing academic record in the primary school by coming tops in all academic activities. Only a few also probably know that he has an unbroken record at secondary school where he won, on a yearly basis, several awards, ranging from the State Merit Award (1971) barely in his first year at secondary school, School Prize for English Oratory (1972), Adeoba Prize for English Oratory (1972), Elias Prize for Best Performance in History (WASC 1975), overall School Prize for Literature (HSC 1975), and African Statesman Intercollegiate Best Speakers Prize (1974). It is worth noting that in a period of five years in secondary school, he had six awards in the kitty. This is a rare feat.

His penchant for success and accomplishments was also brought to the fore at the University of Lagos where, as an undergraduate of this prestigious university, he won the Graham-Douglas Prize for Commercial Law. His records at the London School of Economics and Political Science is a matter for another day. His high level of intelligence is not in doubt.

Many probably do not know that as the former Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Osinbajo raised a legal framework for justice and rule of law which many states of the federation copied and are using to date. Hardly is there any state in Nigeria that has not taken a leaf from the Osinbajo legal ingenuity. This is one testimony that lawyers across Nigeria commonly share.

Many do not probably know also that Yemi Osinbajo was the special adviser to Bola Ajibola, one of Nigeria's most accomplished Ministers of Justice and Attorneys General, and that he was part of the brains behind the stability the Nigerian judiciary enjoys today. This is beside the fact that he had served the United Nations and occupied a very sensitive position in the world body which has contributed to world peace.

It is probably not to the knowledge of many that Yemi Osinbajo became a lecturer at a very young age of 23, a feat only a few individuals of his time could accomplish. He built the department of law of the University of Lagos to the lofty height it occupies today.

The majority of Nigerians are probably not aware that Osinbajo was a very wealthy man before venturing into politics. He made fortunes from writing. To his credit are fifteen books, thirteen articles in international journals, and contributed chapters to twelve books.

Because of his unassuming nature, he hardly mentions that his wife is the granddaughter of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

What is known about his accomplishments is just a little percentage of his achievements. Nigeria needs an accomplished technocrat, a thoroughbred professional and somebody who has a track record of professional experience. And in Osinbajo these qualities can be found.
