According to several research, one out of every ten people will get a kidney stone at some point in their lives. Lack of water in the body is a major cause in the production of kidney stones. Kidney stones are known to develop at a considerably higher rate in people who drink less than the recommended amount of water (2-3 litres per day).

A lack of water in the body prevents uric acid and certain minerals from being diluted, providing an environment favourable to the production of kidney stones.

When food enters the body, it absorbs all of the nutrients while excreting the waste. There is a propensity for crystals to develop when there is too much waste and not enough liquid. These crystals clump together to form solid masses that we refer to as stones. Oxalate is a chemical that, in most situations, causes kidney stones to develop. Because the body has a low quantity of fluid, oxalate binds to calcium, resulting in the production of stones.

According to Healthline, Kidney stone disease can be exacerbated by consuming too much of these three foods:

1. Salt

Salt contains soduim, which causes calcium to build up in the urine (in this case, oxalate will only bond to calcium after it reaches the kidneys, resulting in stone formation) and is a big disadvantage for people who have kidney stones.
