Germany and France qualified by simply topping the group stage of the qualifying match

Nigeria topped the group stage and have been forced to play the play-off
Our top teams have been paired against one another. Nigeria and Ghana, Senegal and Egypt.

These are all teams that should be representing Africa in the world cup.
Why didn't they pair Germany and France na. Or England and Spain to play the play offs. We have been disrespected as a continent and like the ignorant people FIFA think we are. We accepted it with no protest.

At the end of the day, Africa as a continent is unable to present competitive teams to the world cup stage, because they've eliminated one another all in the name of play offs.

Does anyone have a better explanation for this?

No, CAF decided to change to this format themselves. They cited the fact that they wanted to become “more competitive” at the World Cup as their reason. The first format had no play offs.

It makes no difference actually. CAF has 5 allocated spots and recently most of it's members have become very competitive. Small island nations like Comoros do put up a good challenge. Sierra Leone, Gambia etc now posses excellent squad.

Consequently instead of putting 5 groups of 8 countries with lengthy allez et retour matches, its better 10 groups of 4 lessen the process and winners proceed to a play off. The process is only now questionable to most Nigerians cos the didn't qualify..Lol
