Lol... There's no pipeline or transport system in place to get the required volume of gas from the Gulf to Europe. If there was any alternative to Russian gas, the EU would have boycotted Russia decades ago.

I don't think that what is happening now in Europe has happened before on this instance.Hence no need for EU to boycott Russian gas.

Necessity is the mother of invention, but is the current political situation of sanctioning Russia really a necessity? We can only know this if the EU countries dare to boycott Russian gas and have their citizens surge into the streets in wild and violent protests. At that point, leaders of EU countries would have to re-evaluate their choices on whether sanctions against Russia is really more important than the welfare of their own people. When the protests start, we shall also watch and see whether even the RICH countries can survive it (remember wealth is driven by an energised economy).

In a nutshell, Russian gas is an extreme necessity for EU nations today; for now, they have no viable alternatives, not Norweigian gas, not Algerian gas, not Nigerian LNG, nothing is sufficient to match Russian gas, and the economy of the EU is highly dependent on gas (which of course is mostly from Russia). Leaders of EU countries know this too well; reason why they aren't willing to play with fire.

Fake as fake. The EU that cannot do without cheap gas to survive have complied. Buy ruble from gazprombank at our official rates, before proceeding to buy gas, full stop.
