Plots against Udom's 2023
senate, successor gather momentum
Powerful forces within Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel's administration have been working secretly against the incumbent governor to actuaize his 2023 senate ambition and his choice of a successor when his tenure expires on May 29, 2023. Most worrisome is that these secret players are in Udom's government and have been the direct beneficiaries of Udom's political goodwills but they hide behind the curtain showcasing fake loyalty to grabb juicy positions in government for their personal aggrandisements.
As a litmus test to gauge the public reactions first, and to know his true discipleship, last month, Governor Udom openly announced his successor, Mr. Umoh Eno, in the manner that took many stakeholders of his party, by surprise. Many of the party's faithful and state commissioners who were already nursing gubernatorial ambition were caught pants-down in bewildment launching their reactions on the media-print, electronic and social-with the view to discountenancing the authority in His Excellency's executive pronouncement. Paid adverts condemning Udom's choice flooded pages of the media. Professional commentators and opinion writers were engaged at alarming proportions, at least, to weaken the momentum of Udom's announcement.
Unknown to them that their reactions constituted an advantage to Governor Udom who, through the development, had known who truly gave him sincere loyalty and who were just playing out some doctored scripts.
In his characteristic boldness and armed with his That Same God philosophy, Governor Udom refused to yield to all the attendant noices and bowel-begging intimidations and vowed to ensure that his choice would remain undisputable.
Three days ago, a group loyal to Obong Bassey Albert (OBA) comprising some commissioners, special assistants and advisers, in Udom's cabinet was sighted at the residence of Obong Bassey Albert in Uyo for a meeting that lasted for over six hours late in the night. Two serving senators, six commissioners, four royal fathers and some top members of the People's Democratic Party, were among those that
attended the secret meeting. More astonishing was that most of these people were close confidants of Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel and they were the internal engines of Udom's government. "We are all out to ensure that Udom fails at the polls, no matter his financial commitment to twist the election results", a special adviser to Udom told changenews2013 but begged not to be mentioned.
According to a source, one of the highlights at the meeting was that they would all come out to throw their weight behind Obong Bassey Albert to disgrace Udom's chosen successor at the polls. This teamwork, according to one of the former commissioners in the state who attended the meeting, is the only weapon to dismantle Udom's camp and bring his dream to null.
With the growing plots to frustrate Governor Udom's ambition and bring his politial relevance and hard-earned career to the lowest ebb, one migt be left to wonder who is truly for Udom or against him. Or who Udom should dine with a long spoon or a short one with.
