Safety Measures To Prevent Accidents In The House. by Unekwuojograce: 11:56am On Apr 08, 2022
Your home is like your safe space. When you think of injury and accidents, your home is not the first place that comes to your mind, right?

Did you know that 45 percent of unintentional injury deaths happen in or around the individual’s home? Scary, right? We all want our home to be a safe haven for us both physically and mentally, a safe place for not just us but for our families too, and one way to make this happen is by taking preventive safety measures that protect us against unintentional accidents in our home.

The best method to avoid accidents or injuries in the home is to ensure that all necessary safety precautions have been implemented. There are some simple changes you can make in your home to ensure that you are making every effort to avoid home injuries, accidents, or illnesses. In this article, we will be highlighting some safety measures you can take to prevent accidents in your home.

Get Secured Furniture: Avoid getting furniture (especially rugs and carpets) that is not secured to the floor, as it may cause you to slip and fall, leading to accidents like fractures and even broken bones. To prevent rugs from moving, secure them with non-skid pads or purchase rugs with slip-resistant backings.
Install shower grabbers: A shower can be a hazardous place for someone who is unsteady on their feet, such as an elderly family member. Installing hold bars may help to avoid disaster when they slip.
Secure stair railings: Stairs can cause accidents for a variety of reasons. To avoid falls, ensure that your handrail spans the entire length of the staircase. Paint the edges of outside steps that are not brightly illuminated white so they may be seen in the dark.
Properly pack up electric wires in the house: Despite the fact that this appears obvious, accidents involving electronics and water occur yearly. Electric wires should not be kept near water or in a location where they could fall in or be pulled in by children.
Reduce Clutter: The more stuff you have on the floor, the more likely it is that you will trip over something. Maintain a clean and clutter-free environment on your flooring. This is especially crucial in high-traffic places like stairwells.
Install safety glass: Ordinary glass is hazardous, especially at low levels, because it shatters into big, jagged shards that can cause significant harm. In new structures, building regulations require safety glass to be used in glazed doors and spaces less than 800 mm in height. Laminated glass and toughened glass are the two primary varieties. When it breaks, it does so in a safe manner that is unlikely to cause injury. Never allow children to play near glass since they could easily crash through it and sustain terrible injuries.
Aerosol Safety: Keep aerosols out of the sun and in a cold, dry place away from heat. The pressure inside the can increases greatly in the heat and may cause it to burst. Aerosol abuse, often called "sniffing" or "solvent abuse," is extremely dangerous and can kill instantly. The contents of an aerosol may be flammable, so do not spray it on or near a naked flame or fire.

Conclusion
Unfortunately, your home is the place where accidents are most likely to occur. Everyone should be aware of the dangers in the home so that accidents can be avoided. When accidents occur in the house, you take full responsibility for the repairs and also treatment. To avoid spending money, you can implement these preventive measures.
