Qualcomm initially revealed the Snapdragon 865 SoC at its annual Tech Summit in Maui, Hawaii. This 5G-only processor is the successor of the Snapdragon 855 and 855+, and it's used in a number of high-end phones in India and overseas.

The 5G modem is unobtrusive, and Qualcomm will package the chipset with the second-generation X55 Modem-RF. Snapdragon 865 phones are likewise much more expensive than Snapdragon 855 phones from the previous year.

Snapdragon 865 updates prime and performance cores to a new Cortex-A77-based architecture, promising a 25% performance boost as well as a 25% reduction in power consumption.

Qualcomm claims that memory subsystems have improved. LPDDR5 RAM, which will be available in flagship phones next year, is also supported by the SD 865.

The camera capabilities of the SD 865 have significantly improved. Up to 200MP sensors are now supported at 8K230fps, and the time limit for 720@960fps slow-motion recording has been abolished (so, it would be easier to shoot slow-motion footage).
From 7 TOPS to 15 TOPS, AI capabilities have increased significantly.
Graphics rendering on the Adreno 650 GPU is 25% better than on the Adreno 640 GPU. The efficiency of electricity is increased by 35%.
In addition, the Snapdragon 865 is one of the first chipsets to integrate Google's IdentityCredential API, which will be included in Android 11.
According to AndroidPolice, the SD865 supports Google's Project Mainline, which implies that driver updates will be delivered through the Play Store rather than over the air.

Qualcomm isn't customizing ARM's Core architecture because the return on investment isn't high enough.
Qualcomm is using TSMC’s 7NP process to manufacture Snapdragon 855, which isn’t as cutting edge as the new EUV process (7+) that’s used on Kirin 990 5G and Exynos 990.
The SD 865 does not have an integrated 5G modem, but Qualcomm still claims better power efficiency while using 4G networks as compared to SD 855.
