The All Progressives Congress has given reasons for the prices placed on its Expression of Interest and Nomination forms.

The PUNCH had reported that APC would commence the sales of the forms to aspirants in the forthcoming 2023 general election on Saturday.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr Felix Morka, who announced the decision, said that the APC’s Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for 2023 presidential and governorship aspirants would be sold at N100 million and N50 million respectively.

While appearing on a Channels Television programme on Wednesday night, Morka explained that the price tags placed on the forms were “justifiable”.

According to him, people earn legitimately in Nigeria and live opulent lifestyles.

He said, “Exorbitant for those who aspire for the highest office in Nigeria! Yes, I guess people may ask that legitimate questions around that. But don’t forget that some of the most special groups of citizens were granted high consideration. Youths between 25 and 40 are granted 50 per cent discount for all positions.

“We live in a country where people live opulent lifestyles and make legitimate money.”

Asked if APC is a party for the rich, he replied, “It is not for the rich.

“Economically, things are not perfect. They are not perfect anywhere. Do you have a country where the economy is perfect? Is it the United States or the United Kingdom?

“We should make decisions that reflect our situation. The party thinks that the values placed on these forms are justified.”

According to him, aspirants for senatorial positions would pay N20 million for the forms, House of Representatives, N10 million and House of Assembly aspirants N2 million.

Morka said the party’s NEC had approved May 30 and June 1, for its special convention for its 2023 presidential primary election and May 18 for its governorship primary.

He said that forms for the party’s female aspirants and persons with disability would be free for any elective positions in the coming 2023 general elections.

The APC spokesperson added that youths between the age of 25 and 40 years would have to purchase the forms at a discount of 50 per cent.

Padipadi:

You are not realistic as your name implies.
50% of N100m is N50m for the youth. It's still expensive.
How many Davido & Burnaby are in 200m Nigerians.
Use Nigerians rich to poor masses ratio to justify. Not the few entertainers or politician.
If Burnaboy can afford form of N100m cos he bought car worth N200m, can you buy it?
Do you know how many sane Nigerians that are deprived of competitive campaigns when they can't use money during campaign or buy votes like APC & PDP big wigs.
The APC spokesperson is unserious.
His head like kolanut.
If Burna boy and the likes can buy a Lamborghini urus of 200 million , where as there are a lot of those and more on Lagos roads and car dealership show room .
I don't see why a presidential candidate shouldn't be able to afford 100 million, it means if you're truly a presidential material then you should have people who can fund your ambition . And don't let anyone pretend they don't have the 100m coz their vehicle escort is more than 100m

You are right

Very useless set of people, can you imagine what this animal is saying
obynzo:

You are not smart at all
Thanksful:

People who can fund an aspirant are the same people who will have political office shared to.

So there aren't going their to do anything but to squander the people's wealth.

This is corruption not actually taking the money.

I expected the backlash coz we are too sentimental . In reality pegging the form at 100m is more realistic, publishing it is more democratic. And it sieves out the un serious candidates . If a presidential candidate can't do a fund raiser or gather 100m what makes you think they can deliver or won't take the position as a poverty alleviation scheme. A man who's name can't fetch 100m shouldn't be considered fit for the presidency.
I don't see money as you all see it , it's just a measurement .

With this type of thinking faculty, we are doomed in this country.

What percentage of the citizens live opulent lifestyles and earn legitimate income enough to afford 100m for an elective position that is not certain ?

Peter Obi's daughter could buy the form even before she turned 18.

A fraction or generalised proportion of Nigerians living opulent lifestyles? With the abject poverty, high unemployment rate, poor economy and insecurity across this nation? These people are really mad. Out of touch with reality.

Una dey mad.. How much was PDP form in 2015 and members of APC criticised them? The elective posts are now for the highest bidder. Nigeria is now for sale. No wonder this administration has rubber stamped corruption. APC is opposite of all they came to change.

All you idiots know is money money money, the citizens lives does not matter to you guys, the railway hostages are still there begging you basterds to free them yet you idiots care not.

The form fee is so high because APC is the ruling party, anyone that clinch the ticket has higher probability of winning the election.

Anyway, this is your President in 2023

This whole high fee on presidential ticket is just to scare Osinbajo out from purchasing the ticket, so that only people who have over stole will be able to afford it...

And you want us to believe that APC is for fairness and justice, how many retired civil servants who worked for 35 years serving the country can pay even 20 million for that form, you guys just come out and justify rubbish because of political interest.

APC is a drowning party sha, they will all lose...

Politicians are mostly public servants! Even if public servants have more than 100m in their account, isn't it is suspicious if they are able to buy a presidential form worth 100m? You are comparing them to entertainers who make huge money from shows and endorsements.

If people fund your ambition with 100m, when you become president, some of them will expect to be paid back. Regardless of how you look at it, APC is encouraging corruption and looting.

Where is the lie there? Aren't Nigerians show-off people by nature? Our leaders are a reflection of who we are. The other day British Airways said Nigeria's fare is higher compared to other countries cos we prefer first class.
Nobody wants to admit to suffering, everyone wants to show how much better they are doing than the other person. People even look at rising prices as a test of wealth. Everyone is claiming "class". Nigerians mantra is "let's see who can afford it". Who are we fooling? Go to lounges, exotic restaurants, clubs, hangout spots etc and see the amounts being wasted on a daily. foreign vacation destinations like the Maldives and co are populated by Nigerian visitors.
Go to an average Nigerian party and see for yourself. We don't believe in modesty. How many times have posts of people doing simple weddings made it to nairaland? Why? Cos its an aberration.
A.Y live is 20m per table, yet you won't see space on the day of the program.
Fvvk Nigerians abeg.
