Tribe, Religion... The curse of the black man.
I didn't read the epistle up there cos I'm free from that curse: I don't have tribe, I'm just a human being, humanity is my tribe. I don't have religion, I just love. Love is my religion.

A man who doesn't know where he is from doesn't know where he is going and remember that a River that forgets it's source will surely run dry.

Having a tribe or religion doesn't stop you from being a good person

I wish you Goodluck in your self denial

I cannot really blame the police in this case. The priest should provide his friend, Jude Ariom, so he can answer for his crime.

The allegations leveled against him are heinous. Hence, the court's decision to decline his bail. If Jude doesn't show up, the priest, I am afraid, is going to be in jail for a long time.

Father Timothy should provide the owner of the car that he was helping to move the car away.
Why was the car parked for two weeks?
What is the relationship between Father Timothy and his friend?
What's is the friend that drove the doing that he/she cannot move the car?
I am not judging anyone but there are gray areas in the story . Father Timothy is sure not a busy cleric whose job is now to move cars parked by a friend whose identify cannot be disclosed away

Christians online should make the news of the arrest of this father go viral so that the authorities can do a thing .
It is pathetic how we keep silent on things that matters

It has nothing to do with the authorities; this is the law playing out. The priest is answering for the supposed crime of a friend. Given that the case is in court and the allegations are heinous, it makes it even difficult.

I'm sure his friend has run away, allowing the innocent priest to suffer for something he knows nothing about. If he can provide Jude, we wouldn't be having this conversation here.

Painful. What can of useless executive order that can prevent court from entertaining a case, especially that has to do with human rights

I took time to read through the statement; it's really a pity that an ordained father will have to pass through this torment. Really sorry for that.

But then, some questions remains unanswered!...
1) Where was this mystery friend as at when he asked the father to retrieve the vehicle?

2) Why did the Father accept to retrieve the vehicle supposedly on flat tire? A vulcanizer or even the vehicle owner's mechanic could have done that.

3) Why go to the police first to obtain permission before retrieving a friend's vehicle on flat tire?

4) Why would the police re-arrest someone who earlier came for permission?

5) Where is the present location if the original car owner?
And lots of other questions...

My opinion...
The police should IMMEDIATELY grant the ordained Father BAIL, while they continue their investigation.
The original owner of the car MUST be found to explain how his car was used for the alleged crime that caused loss of lives & destruction of properties.

#JusticeForFatherTimothy!
#SayNoToCommunalWar!
#LetPeaceReign!

All these questions can be answered by one question: why did the police grant the father permission to move the vehicle and later arrest him for moving the vehicle?

The Bishop and the diocese are just being careful.
The origin of the fight is that a section of the Ezza clan resident in Ohaukwu LG are fighting wt their Effium neighbours in same Ohaukwu LG.
Now,d arrested priest is from same Ezza in Ohaukwu LG.
The Bishop is also an Ezza man though from a different LG(Ezza north)
Even the diocesan secretary is also an Ezza man from yet a different LG(Ezza south)
So they're just being careful so it won't look like the Bishop is siding his Ezza ppl.

Since the priest was never a shorty for the said Jude Ariom, and if it has been established he didn't participate in the crime and didn't facilitate the disapperance of Jude, why then is he been held.

I just think the Abakaliki diocese is not strong enough in 'dirty 'politics in the state, try this with Onitsha, Awka, Enugu diocese, in an unjust case like this, the priest won't spend upto a day in police custody, if not top officers would be transferred sooner than later to make way to do their bidding.

If this is actually the story, then there is no strong evidence to hold him.

STATEMENT FROM THE CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF ABAKALIKI REGARDING THE ARREST AND ARRAIGNMENT OF FR. TIMOTHY NGWUTA.

On Saturday, 11th December, 2021, Fr. Timothy Ngwuta was arrested by the Nigeria Police at Mbeke, Ishieke, Ebonyi Local Government Area where he went to help his friend, Jude Ariom, retrieve a vehicle (TOYOTA SIENNA) that was parked there. Before Fr. Timothy arrived Mbeke, he proceeded to the police station to obtain clearance to move the vehicle whose Tyres were deflated. The Police at Mbeke granted him permission to take the vehicle away after he has settled their bill for guarding the car for a period of two weeks. In the course of inflating the tyres, the local vigilante swooped on him and his companions, demanding further settlement. Fr. Timothy informed that the settlement with the police was meant to take care of them as well. After a short while, a different set of local vigilante group arrived. bringing about some altercations between the two groups. Fr. Timothy and those who came to assist him move the vehicle were arrested by the local vigilante and handed over to the same police who earlier had given him clearance to move the vehicle. Fr. Timothy and his companions were subsequently brought to Nigerian Police Headquarters at Abakaliki the following day and detained for a period of twelve days. He was tortured. He was later released on bail. When his health began to fail him on account of the torture he received while in detention. That was on the 23rd December, 2021. He was required to be reporting to the Police Station weekly, this he did Religiously.

Just when we thought the matter was over, he was rearrested on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 and, on the 11th of March, 2021 arraigned in court for, kidnapping and murder of the five NELAN Engineers, attack on and murder of police officers, aiding escape, arson, promoting inter-communal war. We are worried how the issue of going to recover a car parked outside the war zone (a different Local Government Area) has metamorphosed to such accusations as contained in the charges against him. The identity of the car was disclosed to the police by Fr. Timothy together with the contact address and phone number. It is rather surprising to hear that Fr. Timothy is shielding him.

Facts available to the diocese are as follows:
1). Fr. Timothy Ngwuta comes from Ezza Effium; whose home town has been decimated by the inter-communal war between the Effium/Ezza Effium.
2). Fr. Timothy Ngwuta vehemently denies all these charges and sees himself as a victim of circumstances.
3). Fr. Timothy Ngwuta states unequivocally that he innocently went to help a friend retrieve his vehicle and was not aware that the vehicle was used in the commission of crimes as alleged.

The Catholic Church condemns acts of violence, incitement of violence, wars, kidnapping, arson, or any crimes and will not shield anyone involved in such dastardly acts. We urge the security forces to do a thorough investigation and ensure that the priest of God, who has, in conscience, stated before his Bishop, that the accusations are entirely FALSE, is not punished for offense he knows nothing about. Efforts to secure his release on Bail have been hampered by the Executive Order preventing any Court in the State from entertaining matters relating to Effium Crisis. Recently the motion for bail was refused on the 12th of April.

The Church in the name of God, appeals to all of Effium and Ezaa Effium involved in the inter-communal war, to lay down their arms and embrace the path of peace. Nothing justifies the senseless killing and maiming of innocent lives. Peace can never be achieved under the barrel of guns.

Since the matter is before the courts, we will not be making any more statement on the case. We urge all to withhold judgment and let the case run its course.

We implore all people of good will to join us in praying God to touch those responsible for the incarceration of Fr. Timothy to listen to the voice of right conscience. We commend the whole process into the hands of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of Priests and the Star of Evangelization. Pray for peace in our State and in the Country.

Signed
Fr. Matthew Uzoma Opoke
Chancellor, Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki.

Why is a Catholic rev. fr. going to retrieve a broken down vehicle? There is something disjointed about this narrative.

I stand to be corrected but I strongly believe the priest made some avoidable mistake.
In the law Court ignorance is never an excuse but as Catholic priest which by that virtue made him a learned person, the priest should have known that he is supposed to carried out proper investigation before attempting to retrieve any property in a crime zone.

The money paid to the police what was it for?
Is it legally right to pay such money to the police?
Why didn't they insist that at least a policeman should accompany then to the scene?

He is not only a friend to the suspect but also a priest of God and the respect and benefits that comes with being a Catholic priest shouldn't be abuse or allowed to be abused.

I pray for God intervention for peaceful and positive outcome in his favour

Meanwhile, I will always prefer to trust that animal with 4 legs, wagging tail and high level of loyalty than trust the Nigerian Police

There is an ongoing dictatorship in Ebonyi State. How can you issue an executive order barring courts from entertaining certain cases? Is there no judge of conscience in Ebonyi? Are they all scared of the Nero in the seat of government of that state?

Fr. don buy market like this
In truth, d car was used to cause d alleged damage in dat war torn zone. Buh clearly it wasn’t d priest dat did it even though he may b aware of this fact.

Buh if they can’t establish concrete evidence on d priests involvement in all of this other Dan hear say, den he should b granted bail. This is where our justice system sulks. Naturally a Priest is a mediator, and for that can be seen meddling in things he shouldn’t be naturally. Again Judgments are on d bases of with these evidence before me

The Police gave him permission before the vigilante leveled their allegations. Will they sweep their allegations under d carpet??
This outcome is as a result of d police investigation.
The police are only investigating the alleged from d vigilante.

You claimed to have read carefully.

1. You should know that several reports regard this arrest has been in the public for over five months now.

2. Fr. Timothy never claimed ownership of the car neither did the NPF requested for the owner nor denied knowing the owner of the vehicle.

3. The story said there was crisis, the NPF was engaged to secure the vehicle hence the need to settle & get approval from them before taking the vehicle. NPF has not denied giving approval to Fr. Timothy & probably a notable person may have been requested before releasing the vehicle to the owner hence the presence of Fr. Timothy there.

4. We all know the overwhelming number of unprofessionals we have in our NPF, so, let's stop this line you're towing rather talk about the reason(s) for NPF not to have come out clear since all these reports got to the public domain. Trying to tie Fr. Timothy to the reason the vehicle was left there earlier isn't the appropriate line to tow in this investigation because the story was expressly clear about his involvement.
