World Day Safety: Sanwo-Olu assures residents of commitment to a safer Lagos.

The Lagos State Government has reiterated it's commitment to a safer Lagos and conducive working environment for its workforce within the State.

Governor Sanwo-Olu stated this during the commemoration of the second Lagos State Occupational Safety and Health Conference to mark this year's World Safety Day tagged: "Act Together to Build a Positive Safety and Health Culture".

The annual World Day Safety was organized by the Lagos State Safety Commission, the event was a platform for stakeholders to deliberate and take stock of safety measures in the work places.

Highlighting his administrations safety precautionary measures, Governor Sanwo-Olu who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs Folasade Jaji emphasized the importance of implementation of health Insurance in work places.

The Governor urged all employers of labour to take advantage of the Lagos State Health Scheme for the benefit of their employees and to also collaborate with government to tackle Occupational Safety & Health challenges for a safer Lagos.

While emphasizing the importance of social dialogue in a goodwill message, the Country Director, International Labour Organisation(ILO), Mrs Vanessa Phalla, said the body is collaborating with the Federal government to ratify legislations on Occupational Safety and Health, commended Lagos for its concerted efforts on safety and urged more States to emulate Lagos by setting up Safety Commission Agencies.

The Honourable Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Engr. Tayo Bamgbose-Martins in his remarks noted that the celebration of the World Day of Safety was in tandem with the THEMES Agenda of the Sanwo-Olu's administration.

The Director-General of the Safety Commission, Mr Lanre Mojola declared that the Commission had been collaborating with stakeholders to actualize the vision of creating a safe and healthy work environment through effective dialogue and active involvement of stakeholders in the development, formulation, and revision of Occupational Safety & Health frameworks, policies and strategies.

In his goodwill message, the Honourable Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr Sam Egube, represented by Mr . Aare Adebayo Sodade, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Economic Planning and Budget, commended the Lagos State Safety Commission for its commitment towards effective healthy and safer Lagos.

According to him, "Let me begin by commending the Lagos State Safety Commission for organizing the 2nd Lagos State Occupational Safety and Health Conference, more importantly, they did a yeoman's job during the last pandemic. because I could recollect that they were one of the agencies on ground throughout the pandemic. This conference is laudable and it is of great importance for all agencies to adopt safety and health culture".

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Special Duties and intergovernmental Relations, Mr Ogundeko Sesan Tunde, represented by Dr. Folake Animashaun, posited that the conference is not out of place but a program that accommodate all and sundry to share ideas on how to avoid injuries, occupational hazards he said health and safety culture is a welcome development, especially by the Lagos State Safety Commission and as the parent ministry, we shall continue to support the Commission in ensuring health and safety of all Lagosians.

The event was attended by representatives of the organised private sector, experts in safety and health fields, experts from formal and informal sectors as well as students from different schools across the State.

The sure way to ensure the safety of lagosians at least in the future is to institute a 1 child policy for all lagosians. Lagos is the smallest state by landmass but it harbors a population greater than Portugal, Sweden, Greece, Tunisia, Hungary and Israel. How is that sustainable? Implement a 1 child policy and close the borders.

Joke. Common lastma n police we cannot get at Apongbon in the morning to deter traffic robbers. The bridge is closed and your team cannot be at all the alternative route to help motorist get a good stress free ride.
