We will begin today’s lectures by discussing about What is a CEO ?, and then we will dive straight into a CEO’s roles and responsibilities in a company.

What is a CEO (Chief Executive Officer) ?
The term CEO stands for chief executive officer, it is considered to be the highest-ranking position given to an individual in a company, firm or an organization.

The CEO is tasked with the responsibility/role of ensuring the company’s success and also in charge of making decisions, which can either affect the company positively or negatively. Other titles for CEOs, which you might not have heard of are chief executive, president, and managing director.

The Chief Executive Officer reports directly to the company’s Board of Directors, where they mostly discuss on the company’s overall performance.

Now that we know about what a CEO is all about, let’s dive into figuring out the roles and responsibilities of a CEO.

What Are The Roles And Responsibility Of A CEO ?
The tasks handled by a CEO can be challenging and mentally stressful, as the future of the company rests on their shoulders. However they still get up, put on a smile and do their best to ensure the company moves forward.

1. Building a team
The first thing you must note as a startup CEO is that you won’t be able to handle all of your brand’s activities all by yourself, you need a team, a good one at that.

At first, you can start with a few people, but as time goes on, the activities of your brand will increase and you will need to increase your workforce.

Note that you are team consists of your employees, your partners, your influencers/promoters, and also your investors if you have any. They play a very pivotal part in your brand’s success so you must endeavor to handpick and work with those who are committed and willing to put in the required work

While starting up your brand, you will get offers from several people to be a part of your team so it is your responsibility to carefully select those whom you will work with.

After selecting your team, you must then make them understand the vision of the brand and the roles that they can play in the actualizing of that vision.

To further ensure the efficiency of your brand, you can also set measurable and achievable goals for your team and attach a time-frame to it to help them be on the edge of their seat for its actualization.

2. Brand Supervision
After enlightening your team members about what their roles are, you must endeavor to check up on them from time to time to how they are coping with the projects which you have assigned to them and help them out when they need help.

This indicates that as a CEO, you must be knowledgeable in all the services that your brand is offering, or have ideas about them to be able to give your team members corrections, advice, or assistance whenever they encounter difficulties accomplishing tasks.

In addition to the acquisition of knowledge in the skills that your brand offers, you must also make sure you possess soft skills such as proper communication skills, ability to listen, empathy, teamwork, time management, emotional intelligence, critical thinking, conflict resolution, persuasion, negotiation amongst others.

Patience, the ability to withhold pressure and learn from mistakes are other soft skills that a CEO must possess while building a brand because the journey to becoming a successful brand isn’t a rosy one.

These soft skills will help you in running your brand properly and in relating well with your team, investors, and your clients alike.

You must also endeavor to show your team members adequate care, concern and push them to strive to be a better vision of themselves. When you show your team that you care about them this much, they tend to put in more work, with more excitement, and be more committed…….
