Three Escape Death as Private Plane Crashlands in Benin Airport

Three persons aboard a privately owned aircraft with registration number 5NBEX Sunday escaped death by the whiskers as their plane over ran the runway at the Benin Airport after several unsuccessful attempts to land.

The 10-seater plane believed to belong to Senator Andy Uba finally made a stop at a grassland several feet from the run way.

The private aircraft, THISDAY gathered , was chartered to pick up a passenger whose identity was unknown at press time.

Officials of the National Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) and Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria refused to comment on what happened. However, some people who craved anonymity attributed the cause to bad weather.

One passenger waiting to board a flight said the incident occurred between 10am and 11am and that the plane hovered in the sky for several minutes.

Fire service men were seen pouring water around the aircraft at about 2pm apparently to prevent a fire outbreak due to what many said was fuel leakage.

The incident led to temporary close down of the Benin Airport as many flights could neither take-off nor land, leaving many passengers stranded for several hours.

Some the stranded passengers who spoke to newsmen expressed disappointment over the inability of the Airport authorities to tell them what went wrong.

Private Jet Crashlands In Benin
A private jet clashlanded earling this morning at the Benin Airport.

The jet is said to be owned by Senator Andy Uba of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who was also a former aide to President Olusegun Obasanjo. He is now a serving Senator from Anambra State.
The plane with registration number BNX 5N had three persons on board when the incident happened.
Report available to the P.M.NEWS has it that the plane crashed due to poor visibility as a result of cloudy weather and the torrential rain that has been falling in Benin in the past one week.
Following the incident, Benin Airport was shut down for several hours. This delayed air travelers that were returning to their various stations after the weekend holidays. Prominent among the stranded passengers were Pastor Mrs. Margret Adeboye, wife of Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God; Mr Alex Iziyon(SAN), Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), Professor Friday Okhonofua of the University of Benin, Delta State Deputy Governor, Professor Amos Utuama, Patrick Ikadiale a House of Representatives member, and Chris Umugbia, former member of Edo state House of Assembly.

Andy Uba was delayed until he hired a private jet with registration number N66 4AC that eventually took him away at 4.15 p.m.
As at the time of filing this report the plane was still at the extreme wing of the tarmac.
The Benin Airport manager, Mr. Ben Ogunle, declined to comment on the incident. There was no response when a call was put through to the Lagos office of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN.

The name Adeboye's wife is Folu, not Margret.
Anyway, most of our politicians are now Private Jet owners why you that voted them are still trekking to work or simply roaming the streets without job. Na wao.
