Topic: The Weaknesses Of Money (part one)
Text: Eccl 10:19.

"A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry: but money answereth all things."
Noticed it says, money answereth all things."

We live in a generation where moral values have been sacrificed at the alter of money. People have become so much money-minded that they openly indulge in corrupt practices to satisfy their greed for money. Money is also the root cause of thefts, murders, frauds and other social vices happening in our society today.

Now, what does the scripture means when it says money answers all things? It means money serves all purposes.

For whatever reason, king Solomon was bringing man into the understanding of what feast/wine can do and what money can do. He was drawing a comparison between these two factors.

Then, he says, though a feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry, they cannot provide all the needs of man, but money does. Man would need shelter, car, clothes, shoes etc; feast/wine cannot cater for these things, but money can - hence money serves all purposes.

However, that money answers all things, that money serves all purposes, doesn't mean it is almighty, it is infallible, it is worth taken up arms, killing, maiming or committing immorality for - to the extent of having it with dogs... No!

A bible commentary I stumbled into while researching for this subject, said something I found very instructive. He said,
"But money answers nothing to the soul; it will not procure the pardon of sin, the favour of God. The peace of the soul...is not maintained, with corruptible things as silver and gold."

Hear this, money indeed is weak! Do we need money? Yes, we do. But in our pursuit for money, we must do it as it is right with God, and bear in mind that money is weak.
