i need the assistance of anyone who's capable of giving me such.

I gave a young man a contract to build my site for me and unfortunately
he did it to my dissatisfaction.

It's a long story. To cut it short, i'm disengaging and cutting short my relationship
with him.

My Request
I need to transfer my webhost details from him to another webhost and i need to
know the details and the information to ask from him. I'm at a loss right now.

Can anyone help me as regards the definite information i need to ask him that will
facilitate my smooth transfer from his webhost to the new one i'm looking at?

If the web developer[b] registered the domain on your behalf[/b], then under normal circumstances you would have instructed him to facilitate the transfer process. But since you and him ended on a sour note, if the web developer doesn't/can't honor your request, you might have burnt the bridge before crossing it.

Assuming the above is the case (you can't get the developer to do it, even if its in his name), your other options are slim. Can you contact the webhost directly, explaining the situation? If you're a registered company, some documentation might help. The key is convincing the webhost the domain is in fact yours.

I've written on these issues extensively, and it might help you be more proactive as per your next project. Hope this helps.

Well spoken. But I still don't see why developers withhold some of these details because any company can hold you responsible for the leak of their private data. I once had an issue like that so since then, once I drop your job, I tender everything to you. People take unnecessary risks anyways.

I don't know the agreement you had with this web designer but the first thing you ought to do is to get your domain name. This is very important as a site is dead without your domain just like you can't build a house without having a land first.

Secondly, you should ask for a full backup which includes your files, database etc.

i appreciate your counsel. You just hit the hard nail on the truth.

But, as it is do you think i can still ask him questions and if i can,

what should i ask him to provide me?

I've been working on the so called site he did for me www.kitemarksol.com
and everything he did is complete rubbish.

He delayed exceedingly on the site until i told him to give me all the details
that i need and he promised he was not going to touch the design and anything
that pertains to the site. Infact, as per agreement, he is not done with the job
i gave to him.

He added a KAYA Slider module onto the dashboard and the funny thing doesn't seem
to accommodate other plugins that should at least help me navigate round and
inject some other stuffs to it.

Webmonk, i'm heeding to your advise and have learnt a good lesson on the issue.

It won't repeat itself no doubt.

Do you have a comprehensive video tutorial on webhosting and uploading webpages to the
site videos that i can get or buy from you?

no harm in asking. though if he doesnt oblige, your next action should be contacting the webhost itself for assistance. the transfer is usually a webhost to webhost affair initiated by whoever registered the site, so explaining your case to the current webhost should hopefully start the process by the circumventing the developer (its a long shot though)
