loluc90: @ George_D thumbs up,expecting the pictures as u said sir. @loluc90, Thanks. I will post pictures as soon as I get the chance. I noticed the middle ku LNB seems to be performing under par. It could be that the over 12 months sitting idle in the hot outside sun may have affected it like the rest C band lnbs I changed out. I may have to change it out also to get a clean slate. |

figment232: George D my 2.4 Comstar Dish has been down since last year.pls do u know of any good Satellite technician in town that can fix for me.?I am in warri @figment232, Yes, I know a good installer who can help you out but don't you think you should first give it a shot before going to call an installer? If it was working before but now it is down, perhaps with a little knowledge from what you have gathered here so far, you could bring that dish up again. That's what I did in my own case. As long as it was properly installed the first time, unless it was tampered with, all the alignment should still remain intact even five years from now. So, with that out of the way you only need to trouble shoot and find out why it is not working as it should. In my own case I had to change both C band lnbs, I changed the jack and positioner, checked Lyngsat for active transponders which I then used to re-track the various positions East and West and my dish is back again and better. Surely, you can also do this? No? |

erm ok. i need to ask some seriously mumu questions. i need you to understand that i simply do not want to guess the answers. neither does it mean im THAT slow. i just believe that he who asks questions most def will not go astray. I see this FTA/ freebie hacking setup at places where it seems the guys hook up the decoder to a router (that uses a gsm sim card) Now im not so much interested in the DS*V hacking. not at all. but i see a lot of obscure foreign stations on them, some that interest me. Now according to my findings (mostly lies i was told i guess) the router/sim card is needed for online access which leads to my question(s): 1. when that setup is done with a dish outside, is the data connection absolutely vital, as in is it STREAMING over the data? or the data is just needed to intermittently refresh keys? 2. related to above, what volume of data consumption are we looking at? constant streams going through GBs per day or minor consumption 3. in the event that i am not interested in hacking any pay tv, at least the local ones, of what benefit will this setup be? will i be able to use it for non-local pay/free tv stations? 4. i understand that some decoders allow you to surf sites like youtube. i presume those will be entirely data driven? are there also satellite stations on these boxes that are entirely data driven (meaning the dish is not useful?) |

Winners' Chapel is now on satellite TV! The church has established its own broadcasting network named Breakthrough Broadcasting Network (BBN) which is available on Channel 21 on MyTV. This feat is coming barely a year after the church got licensed to operate its own airline Dominion Airline. Its inaugural transmission will be today (February 3, 2013) at %.00 PM Nigerian time. This is a huge leap for a church which has branches in sixty countries of the world without ever being on TV or radio in its thirty two years of existence. Despite this fact, its three Sunday services are watched live online in one hundred and ten (110) countries of the world. The Living Faith Church has thus joined the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Daystar Christian Centre and Synagogue Church of All Nations to provide regular broadcast of its programmes 24 hours daily across the world. Jesus is Lord! |

sikadicius: Thread Closed!!! Search for very good answers and results on google - buddy. i have not asked u guys for anything sensitive i guess. all this google it parole does not apply. i simply want to know if its a data hungry thing. whats the point in investing in something that i have to feed with thousands of naira data monthly? if i want to be streaming, i dont need a STB to stream. |

Re: Free To Air Satellite Tv General Thread by swordswifter: 6:32pm On Feb 05, 2013 |
4llerbuntu: @ 4llerbuntu That is what you should have asked right away than to ask all that plenty things. As for those things you wouldn't have gotten any answers. Now to answer you, it depends on the receiver you are using but on average you'll need 200MB worth of data if your are watching the scrambled channels continuously for a month. This is without using your stb for streaming links like youtube and the rest. On the other hand, if you want to stream live videos on the net, it is better you use a pc with adsl/broadband with unlimited data plan. That will rather be economical and will help keep your receiver running/working perfectly for much longer. |

4llerbuntu:Some receivers can give you access to iptv/internet protocol television using your broadband service for a limited period some can go for upto 12months,regardless of type of channel and satellite dish is not required.....but at the end of the expiry you start paying for your monthly subscription that includes your broadband subscription which must be high speed internet....better hook to your satellite dish to watch tv!!!
