Osinbajo's Posters Flood Akpabio's Hometown
Barely two weeks after Senator Akpabio's declaration of interest to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari on May 29, 2013, as Nigeria's next president, major streets and communities, mainly, Ikot Ekpene senatorial district, in Akwa Ibom State have been flooded with a variety of posters and billboards of Nigeria's vice-president, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, as the rightful successor of President Muhammadu Buhari, whose tenure comes to the constitutional end by May 29, 2023.
Already, one of the support groups for Osinbajo's presidential ambition, which is a coalition of socio-cultural groups in Nigeria, under the auspices, "The New Tribe", has taken its south south coordination train to the streets of Ikot Ekpene, Ikono, Ini, Obot Akara, Etim Ekpo, Abak, Oruk Anam, Ukanafun, Ika and Essien Udim, Akpabio's local government area, with members and volunteers, in their "Osinbajo For President" T-shirt chanting songs of victory for Osinbajo and claiming that Senator Akpabio was soliciting cheap political relevance and, at the same time, preparing a pathway for his second disgrace at the polls citing his landslide loss of his senate re-election to Senator Chris Ekpenyong of the Peoples Democratic Party, in 2019, as one of the key determinant factors.
The group, with its intimidating structure, boasts patriotic Nigerians cutting across
diverse professional backgrounds and technocrats with the capacity, will power and mindset to make the right choice and take the right decisions at any time, not minding the nation's rough political terrain.
Last Monday, the palace of Obong Uforo Ikot Ekpene, villagehead of Utu Edem Usung and clanhead-elect of Otoro-Ubo, His Highness, Dr. Ime S. Ekpo, who doubles as the group's south south coordinator, was a beehive of activities, from cultural groups, social entertainers, musicians, to entertain visitors, when the group took its train structure to his palace to receive his royal blessings and advice.
Welcoming the over-pouring crowd into his palace, the colourfully dressed monarch said, "Your choice and support for Professor Osinbajo as Nigeria's next president is the noblest project Nigeria has ever embarked upon in her years of democratic dispensation". "I urge all of you who have seen the imperative to embrace a meaningful change in our democratic process, to imbibe the virtues and the leadership spirit of the vice-president, else, your patriotic initiative will speedily lose its merit", he advised. Dr, Ekpo, therefore, called on Nigerians to, as a matter of urgency, flee the camps of mischief makers and join the "The New Tribe", in support of the man who can truly take Nigeria to where it is supposed to be.
Fielding questions from journalists at the ocassion, Dr. Ekpo advised Nigerian youths, irrespective of religion, tribe or political standing, to make the choice that would offer them a refreshing breath of the leadership that would guarantee their future and that of the upcoming generations. "In Nigeria, we need a change and a departure from the old mentality of governance to something dynamic and of modern standard", he preached.
