how do i prevent my fish from dying after the stress of changing the water or washing the ponds

Is it hybrid or clarias?. Hybrid have a stronger immune system and can withstand stress more than Clarias. When next you change the water. Maybe you try feeding them before changing the water. That should help stop or reduce the mortality sir.
