A Catholic priest, Most Reverend Fr Hyacinth Iormem Alia has been suspended by the Catholic bishop of Gboko Diocese, Bishop William Avenya.

It was learnt that the priest was suspended for joining the 2023 governorship race in Benue state under the platform of the All Progress Congress, APC.

Alia is suspended from public ministry after obtaining the APC form in an attempt to take over from Governor Samuel Ortom.

Salemgists gathered that Alia’s aspiration excites Benue indigenes, he became a household name since indicating interest to contest for Benue Governorship.

But, how do someone who wants to be a leader disobey a rule from where he has been raised and trained? Without permission or advice from the church (his church)!

If he should eventually emerge the winner, only his creator knows how many laws might be broken in his tenure by himself.

Catholic Priests are forbidden to run for and hold public office by the Catholic Church. That does not prohibit them from being honest, neutral brokers of actions taken for the public welfare

Benue Catholic priests and gubernatorial ambition. The same suspension was meted on Rev Moses Adasu when he contested and later won to become Benue governor. I respect the Catholic Church for this. There was absolutely nothing evolutionary in Adasu tenure so why would this one be different.

Benue state had a Catholic priest as governor in the past, it was that governor that established Benue state University

Ask questions to be enlightened, Adasu is one of the best governors Benue have produced, he brought Benue state university and many other development despite spending just 2 years in Office
