The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has concluded its governorship primaries in most of the States.

Here are the names of the persons who emerged candidates of the party in northern Nigeria, as compiled by QUEST TIMES.

GOMBE

The Gombe state chapter of the PDP on Wednesday picked Mohammed Jibrin Barde from Gombe local government area as its governorship candidate for the 2023 election.

He defeated his closest rival Jamilu Isiyaku Gwamna with 160 votes against 119.

Other contestants were; Dr Ali Gombe from Gombe local government, Ya’u Gimba Kumo from Akko local government, Air Vice Marshall Shehu Adamu Fura from Gombe local government and Babayo Ardo.

A total of 328 delegates cast their votes during the election while two others were barred from turning up at the venue late after the completion of delegates’ accreditation.

An aspirant, Adamu Shehu, who came third polled 18 votes, the former Managing Director of Federal Mortgage Bank Ya’u Kumo scored one vote, while the remaining contestants scored no vote.

BAUCHI

Mr Ibrahim Kashim, a gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State, has emerged the party’s governorship flag bearer for the 2023 general election.

Kashim, the immediate past Secretary to the State Government, was the only governorship aspirant in the party’s primary election.

PLATEAU

The former Chairman of Mangu Local Government of Plateau, Mr Caleb Mutfwang emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the 2023 elections.


Mr Bode Ogunmola, the Returning Officer who announced the result, said that Mutfwang polled 252 votes to defeat 13 other aspirants who contested for the ticket.

Ogunmola announced that Chief Kefas Ropshik came second with a total score of 113 votes.

The returning official stated that 604 delegates were to participate in the election but 601 turned up and cast their votes.

Ogunmola said that out of the votes cast, 593 votes were valid while eight votes were invalid.

“Mr Caleb Mutfwang having scored the highest number of votes is hereby declared governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Plateau,” he announced.

According to the result, Alfred Damial came third with 92 votes followed by Dauda Gotiring who scored 88 votes while Chief Jonathan Akuns got 16 votes, Satu Jewun; nine votes, Shedrack Best; four votes and Bagudu Hirse; four votes.

KADUNA

Mr Isa Mohammed Ashiru won the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State for the 2023 governorship election.The Returning Officer, Mr Raymond Dabo, a former Plateau State PDP Chairman, announced the result after the party’s gubernatorial primary election on Thursday in Kaduna.

Dabo said Ashiru polled a total of 414 votes to defeat Sani Sidi who got 260 votes to pick the party’s ticket.

He said Muktar Yero placed third with 28 votes, while others including Sani Abbas, Haruna Sa’eed, Shehu Sani recorded 15, 11 and 2 votes respectively.

The returning officer, however, announced 30 invalid votes.

KWARA

In Kwara State, a former member of the House of Representatives, Yahman Abdullahi emerged as the governorship candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).

Abdullahi, a three-time member of the Green Chamber, defeated two other aspirants to clinch the position.The other aspirants were Ahman Pategi and Prof Issa Gana.

The Chairman of the electoral committee of the governorship primary, and the returning officer, Niyi Owolade, announced the result of the election at about 10pm on Wednesday night.

Owolade said that Abdullahi polled 518 out of the total 574 votes cast, while Pategi recorded 31 votes and Gana 14.

According to him, 574 of the total number of 591 delegates were accredited while 11 votes were voided.

The governorship candidate was a member representing the Pategi/Lafiagi/Moro Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

Abdullahi, who was a governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2019, defected to the PDP six weeks ago and collected the forms to contest for the governorship ticket.

SOKOTO

Alhaji Sa’idu Umar, former Secretary to the Sokoto State Government, clinched the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship ticket to contest the 2023 election.

This development followed the withdrawal of four other aspirants and affirmation vote conducted by 695 out of 755 delegates on Wednesday in Sokoto.

The aspirants who withdrew from the race included the state Deputy Governor, Alhaji Munir Dan’iya and Bello Goronyo, the PDP Chairman in the state.Others are Alhaji Mukhtari Shagari, the former deputy governor of the state and former Commissioner for Environment Alhaji Sagir Bafarawa.

The affirmation was conducted under the supervision of the committee from the PDP National Headquarters chaired by Dr. Tom Zakari and INEC officials as observers.

Announcing the outcome of the affirmation, Zakari said the winner scored 695 votes and the remaining votes were voided.

KANO

In Kano State, it is Alhaji Muhammad Abacha, son of former military leader, Sani Abacha who emerged governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 general elections.

Abacha polled 736 votes to defeat his closest rival, Jafar Sani-Bello, who scored 710 votes in the primary election on Wednesday in Kano state.

Announcing the results, the Returning Officer, Hajiya Amina Garba, declared Abacha as the winner of the primaries having scored 736 votes.

BORNO

Alhaji Mohammed Jajari emerged governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 general election in Borno State.

Jajari polled 487 votes to defeat Mohammed Imam who polled 362 in the primary election held on Wednesday in Borno state.

Announcing the results, Abdulrahman Bobboi, the Chairman of the Governorship Primary Committee for Borno state, declared Jajari as the winner of the primaries having scored 487 votes.

Bobboi said that the total votes cast in the election was 849 votes.

NASARAWA

A former member of the House of Representatives, Mr David Ombugadu clinched the gubernatorial ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State.

The Chairman of the party’s electoral committee in the state, Mr Bature Musa, announced Ombugadu as winner of the governorship primary election held on Wednesday in Nasarawa, Nasarawa Local Government Area of the state.

Musa said Ombugadu polled 247 votes to defeat retired Maj. Gen. Nuhu Angbazo who scored 203 votes.

“Having secured a total of 247, I thereby declare Hon. David Ombugadu the winner of the Nasarawa State Governorship primary election,” he said.

He said a total of 450 delegates were accredited and all voted in the election.

Reacting in an interview with newsmen, Ombugadu attributed his victory to God and promised to work hard to ensure that PDP takes over governance in the state in 2023.

JIGAWA

Alhaji Mustafa Lamido, the son of former Gov. Sule Lamido of Jigawa emerged the state’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the 2023 poll.

The returning officer for the primaries, Mr Isah Ahmed, said this when he announced the results on Wednesday in Dutse.

Ahmed said that Mustafa scored 829 out of the 832 votes cast, to win the primaries, adding that Alhaji Saleh Shehu placed second with zero vote.

BENUE

The speaker of the Benue House of Assembly, Mr Titus Uba picked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket for the state governorship election in 2023.

The Returning Officer for the primaries, Mr Bode Ojomu said this when he announced the result of the election on Wednesday in Makurdi.

Ojomu said that Uba scored 731 out of the 851 votes at the event, adding that the deputy governor, Benson Abounu placed second with 81 votes, while Prof. Dennis Ityavyar got two votes to take the third position.

ADAMAWA

No fewer than 663 delegates on Wednesday elected Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa as the Peoples’ Democratic Party’s (PDP) governorship candidate to contest the 2023 election for a second term of office.

Dr Gibon Katabs, Chairman of the electoral committee of the primary election made the announcement in Yola after the exercise.

Fintiri was the only contestant following the disqualification of Mr Jamil Waziri by the screening committee.

Katabs said that 668 delegates were accredited, but there were five invalid votes.

“Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri scored 663 valid votes and is hereby returned as the governorship candidate of PDP for Adamawa in 2023,’’ he said.

ZAMFARA

Alhaji Dauda Lawal won the Zamfara Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) governorship ticket for the 2023 general elections.

Mr Adamu Maina, the Returning Officer for the primaries, declared the result in Gusau, saying that Lawal polled 431 votes to win the ticket.

Maina said Dr Ibrahim Shehu scored five votes to emerge second, while Alhaji Wadatau Madawaki placed third with three votes.

TARABA

In Taraba State, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Col Agbu Kefas (rtd) has won the party ticket to contest in the 2023 general gubernatorial election in Taraba State.

Kefas polled a total of 443 votes while his closest rival, Prof Joseph Albasu Kunini, polled 31 votes.

Other aspirants were: Prof Jerome Nyame, 24 votes; Joel Ikenya, 11 votes and Buba Joda Mafindi, 6 votes.

KEBBI

Retired General Aminu Muhammad Bande won the governorship primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Kebbi state.

The primary election was peaceful, amid tight security at the royal platform in Birnin Kebbi.

Bande, who scored 471 votes, was followed by Dr Buhari Bala, the former minister who polled 43 votes, while Garba Haruna scored 22 votes and Samaila Sambawa scored 21 votes.

YOBE

Alhaji Shariff Abdullahi emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) gubernatorial candidate in the Yobe State primary election conducted on Wednesday.

Abdullahi beat two other candidates to emerge victorious as announced by the Returning Officer, Dr. Aminu Taura Abdullahi.

The breakdown of the votes showed that Dr. Ali Adamu Tikau scored 129, Abba Gana Tata got 109, while Alhaji Sheriff Abdullahi polled 295 to emerge winner of the contest.

According to the Returning Officer, total votes cast in the primary election were 539, total valid votes 533, while 6 votes were invalid.

He added that there were 551 PDP delegates from the 17 local government areas of the State, out of which only 539 delegates cast their ballots in the primary election.

NIGER

In Niger State, a former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Liman Kantigi emerged winner of the governorship primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Kantigi beat four other aspirants – Sani Kutigi, Sidi Abdul, Abdulrahman Gimba and Abdullahi Jankara – to clinch the party’s ticket.


Announcing the results, the Chairman of the State electoral panel and Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Mr. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, said a total of 808 delegates were accredited to vote in the primaries which held at the party secretariat in Minna.

He stated that Kantigi polled 667 votes to emerge winner of the contest, while his closest rival, Sani Idris Kutigi got 114 votes.

Abdullahi Jankara received 21 votes, Gimba Abdulrahman, 3 votes, and Sidi Abdul polled zero votes.

KATSINA

Senator Garba Yakubu Lado has won the Katsina State Governorship Primary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, held at the party’s secretariat in the early hours of Friday.


Senator Lado polled 740 votes to defeat his major contender, Salisu Majigiri, who secured 257 votes.

According to Nwozozo, a total of 1108 delegates got accredited for the exercise, with a total of 1094 total votes cast and four votes declared invalid.

The result was announced at exactly 1:45 am on Friday by the Chairman of the Katsina State PDP electoral committee, Dr Chika Nwozozo.
