Bauchi: 18 arrested for sodomy •Face death penalty

EIGHTEEN suspected homo-sexuals have been arrested by the police in Bauchi for alleged sodomy.

The accused may be sentenced to death if convicted under Bauchi State’s Islamic Shariah law.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the suspects were arrested Sunday in a hotel in Bauchi and arraigned Wednesday before Justice Taminu Abubakar of the Bauchi High Court.

Prosecuting police officer, Thadius Boboi told the court that the men, who were wearing female clothing, had come to the city from five neighbouring states to celebrate a gay "marriage".

He said the men’s actions had contravened the shari’ah penal code adopted in Bauchi and other states in muslim northern Nigeria eight years ago following the end of military rule.

In June an agency tasked with implementing shari’ah law in Bauchi called on the new state governor Isa Yuguda to approve three sentences of death by stoning and 40 of amputation passed since 2002 which his predecessor had refused to ratify.

The death sentences were passed for sexual offences, including one for sodomy.

In a Nigerian shari’ah state, the governor must give his approval before punishments like death and amputation passed by shari’ah courts are actually carried out.

Daily Champion recalls that the Federal Government last year banned gay marriage in Nigeria, thus ending hopes by people of same sex to enjoy marital relationships in the country.

The ban also affects staging of gay rallies. This resolution was reached during the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting which considered and endorsed the bill prohibiting gay marriage. It slammed five years prison terms with no option of fine on both direct violators of the law and those that aid and abet such marriages.

Immediate past minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Mr. Bayo Ojo (SAN) presented the bill to the meeting leading to the resolution.

Under Sharia, if someone steals, that hand that was used for stealing would be cut off. Why then should someone who commited homosexual be executed? Shouldnt they just cut off the privates? With that the Sharia authorities would rest assured that he wont commit such offence again.

Denex, these guys would only appeal on the grounds that they do not agree with the judgement. A slave that loves his chains would tarry for long in those chains, Jangedi was the first convict in Zamfara way back then, he stole a hen/goat (can't remember which now) and the judgement was that his right hand be cut. Before the hand was cut-off they asked him what he wanted, he requested for a bottle of malt drink and a tin of peak milk which were provided for him. After the hand had been cut-off and bandaged, he came out of the building, and was very happy and he showed this by waving the hand to his fellow ignoramus who had gathered outside the fence hailing him. He was interviewed shortly after and he said he had no regrets whatsoever. SO DO NOT EXPECT ANY APPEAL.

All this noise about homosexuals in the North sounds to me like a planned job. why the North, especially the core sharia states?

Homosexuality is illegal all over Nigeria and should remain so. We can not follow the West, when their craziness is accelerating. I guess they are going to be the modern day sodom and gomorah.

The story of homosexuality in Northern Nigeria has a long history and is also common in Islamic Saudi Arabia. The Sharia is just a masquerade of the  fallacy and hipocrisy of their Islamic religion, because what they do contradicts the so called tenets of their religion.

I am addressing this matter from my close interactions with Hausas over the years. And I have had friends who were gay. But most of the so called homos in Nigeria are actually bisexual.

I AM AGAINST DEATH PENALTY FOR HOMOSEXUALITY, because before the eyes of the Almighty God, sin is sin and a sinner is a sinner. So, a fornicator is as abominable as a homosexual.

HIV/AIDS came into humans through homosexuality. And the first case of HIV/AIDS in Nigeria was discovered in the North.

A fornicator should not pretend to be holier than a homosexual or lesbian.
