The game which was meant to be a buildup for the Nigerian national team ended in a dramatic 1-0 loss in favor of Ecuador following a close-range header from the Villarreal left-back Pervis Estupinan in the 3 minutes of the match.

Recall that the Nigeria Football Federation about a month ago appointed Jose Peseiro as the coach of the Super Eagles with a mandate to form a formidable team that will restore the glory of the nation’s football. However, the 62-year-old outings have so far been meted with two conservative losses. The Super Eagles ranked 30th in the world were smacked 2-1 by the North American side, Mexico, and subsequently lost 1-0 to South American Ecuador which is ranked 9th and 46th in the world FIFA rankings respectively.

Although the scoreline was not the reflection of what Nigeria played in the game, however, when you have a game plan, you are tactically sound and are resilient enough to absorb pressure then you can get to win matches irrespective of the team you played with or the status quo of its ranking since ranking doesn’t equate to winning games.
