"Nigeria Is A Proof That Jesus Can't Bring Peace."-- Daddy Freeze

The Nigerian social media went agog on Tuesday, June 8 as Netizens began to trend the name of Jesus across all social platforms. Jesus also became the number one trend on Twitter.

It was a picture of the name "Jesus" written in red colour on a white background. People posted this as their display picture on Twitter, Whatsapp, Facebook and Instagram pages.

The trend started when a Nigerian gospel singer, Nathaniel Bassey urged Nigerians to tweet the picture at exactly 12 noon. "Let's release this precious ointment on our land and nation." He wrote.

This generated mixed reactions from Nigerians on social media. While many people adhered to the instructions, several others kicked against it and criticized the trending of Jesus name.

After a while, some Nigerians began to trend the names of "Amadioha", "Sango" "Obatala" and other traditional gods worshipped in Nigeria. This made Sango and Amadioha trend on Twitter as well.

Nigerian celebrities were not left out of this discussion. While some celebrities endorsed the idea and followed the instruction, fee others kicked against the posting of Jesus name as DP. Daddy Freeze is among the latter group.

On an Instagram post yesterday, he wrote; "Baba wan start another challenge to trend and possibly make bar. Instead of telling people to go and get their Permanent Voters Card (PVC), na to put Jesus picture for DP."

"Who did this to us? Nigeria is a living proof that Jesus can't bring peace. It's been 60 years doing the same thing with no results. Bro, come on."

Another media personality, Uti Nwachukwu lost his cool over the posting of Jesus name all over social media. In a video uploaded on his Instagram page, he expressed his anger over the issue. He also wrote a damning caption against the act. Read his speech below:

"Do you really expect God to come down from heaven and do what we are supposed to do in Nigeria? Do you realize that people were killed in the house of God when they were probably shouting "Jesus" while their lives is being snuffed out of them?"
